HipHopDX Premiere: Fusing the Bay Area’s hyphy sounds with raw hood tales, West Oakland rapper J. Stalin delivered a solid debut, 2006’s On Behalf of the Streets. Ten years later, he’s back with the sequal, On Behalf of the Streets 2, which was officially released today (October 28).

“I had to make On Behalf of the Streets 2 for the streets, for more than just me,” Stalin tells DX. “When I say it’s on my behalf, I went from rapping just not about me, but speaking on behalf of the streets/my friends,” J. Stalin explains. “I’m talking about selling dope, busting guns, trying to have a different life. I picked up exactly where I left off from On Behalf of the Streets 10 years ago. It’s like a movie. It’s like I’m still the same J. Stalin that was on OBOTS but a more successful J Stalin now.”

With appearances from IAMSU!, K Camp, Nef The Pharaoh, Lil Bood, G-Eazy, Philthy Rich, Slim 400, Rayven Justice, Celly Ru, 4Rax of the Mekanix, Young Doe, G-Stack, Erk Da Jerk, and a posthumous appearance from The Jacka, the 22-track, The Mekanix-produced album swings from hardcore rap to chill, laid-back rhythms.
