Brooklyn newcomer I.O.D releases “‘Round Here,” the first single off his forthcoming mixtape “The Brownsvillain.
A 22-year Brooklyn native, I.O.D was born and raised on the streets of Brownsville, one of the most impoverished neighborhoods in North America. I.O.D began making music at 14, and his lyrics reflect the struggles of a young creative striving to navigate the chaotic yet vibrant community surrounding him.
“‘Round Here” serves as an anthem for I.O.D’s community of Brownsville, celebrating the local culture while acknowledging the harsh realities facing it. Creating honest dialogue and shedding light on the shadowed realities of his own community is important to I.O.D, who has spent years working in Brownsville after-school programs helping kids like himself. “I want to make music that kids where I grew up want to listen to” says I.O.D, “but I want to infuse that music with positive messages.”
Contribute to the movement as they look to raise money for a videoshoot and community barbecue.
