The young Madison, Wisconsin artist has been creating these mystical “Alternative Drill”records for the past year, dropping off another smoked out, soulful cut every month. Max Wonders came with the assist from Chicago, which is only a couple hours away from Madison by I-90.
Similar to drill artists, Trapo’s music isn’t mixed in the mainstream style. However, the emcee from the South Side of town mixes the Chicago sound with the Jazz found throughout the area. Go through his catalog and you’ll find slow, haunting odes mixed with piano and smooth chords. His raw sound and quick transitions from gritty rap to heartfelt melody set him apart. Others in the area are experimenting and landing on different levels of the drill-soul spectrum. Check out Martin $ky, Ibn Inglor and XVRHLDY, and Trapo’s South Side associate Ra’Shaun.
Trapo and Max Wonders are working on a joint Help me Help You project, while Trapo also plots The Black Beverly Hills EP for an October 26, 2015 release.
