    1. Jay Elec got hov’s chain on in that pic???
killed the track though..jay elec and kdot need to do a joint album…watch the throne 2!

      1. Not exactly… That’s a Nation of Gods and Earths chain, also known as the 5% Nation of Islam, an offshoot of the Nation of Islam that’s popular on the East Coast among some older heads who’ve been around for a while.

    2. FUCK THIS SHIT!!! And I say that as a FAN of Common and Jay Electronica.

The best thing that this song revealed is the VOID in Hip-Hop of ANTI-religious MC’s that are STILL positive and intelligent.

I understand the need for balance against all the ratchet-ness and negativity, but all this spiritual shit is NOT the answer!

This is just the perpetuation of a PLACEBO effect on peoples minds, under the guise of “enlightenment”. I’m sick of wannabe “smart” people with this elitist attitude, as if they are the “enlightened few” (the 5%) with “esoteric knowledge”. And anybody who doesn’t agree is part of the “lost, ignorant 85%”… F.O.H!!!!

There are PLENTY of Black intellectuals who were ANTI-religious programming.. Go study Frederick Douglass, or Baldwin, to name a few.

And compared to the preachy, religiously brainwashed leaders that we tend to exalt, the FREE-THINKERS usually have a more pragmatic, precise and productive agenda to REALISTICALLY help the masses!! Primarily through encouraging CRITICAL THINKING and REAL EDUCATION, not belief-based indoctrination.

It’s a shame that these MC’s that we consider to be “lyrically superior” don’t have a TRULY enlightened mentality.. They just THINK they do.. But they’re really just preaching primitive concepts that have been romanticized and seasoned with custom, culture, doctrines and ritual to give and APPEARANCE of something “official”, so that people accept it with NO question or challenge.

Fuck this “Pie In The Sky” bullshit! We only get ONE LIFE, and ONE WORLD!! We need to focus on improving our REALITY, with rationality and pragmatism, NOT superstitious, wannabe-immortal, god complex BULLSHIT!!!

      1. Wow. Completly on point. When you’re talking about free thinking intellectuals that are anti-religious I cant not think about Canibus, his music is real enlightenment-

      2. I basically agree with your point, but I’d also like to provide a mild suggestion for you statement. I think it’s more appropriate to use the terms ‘secular’ or ‘irreligious’ as they can provide a better tone implicitly. To some who may read what you’ve said, ‘Anti-religious’ may sound more so as a belief of intentionally bashing certain religious views and values rather than debating with and refuting them. But I concur with what you’ve essentially said. Very accurate.

      3. I agree completely. Very good analysis of the pseudo-intellectual raps of ‘elite’ rappers and the bullshit God complex.

      4. This sound like something that came out of my mouth. This is the most intellectual shit Ive ever heard on a hip hop site.

But real talk I personally love listening to Jay Electronica, Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul and I used to listen to Lupe Fiasco so I understand exactly where you coming from but the just happen to make the best music.

MLK and Malcolm used religion as a powerful tool to mobilize the masses and get them to engage politically to advance the black agenda and I have no doubt that if they were to live they would have helped bring genuine revolution to this country along with others. Religion is just a powerful tool that can encourage people to do things that would not be comfortable doing.

You must also realize that the church was also social gathering for blacks in this country for a long time. Having a high position in the church was to have status society. Its cultural.
