Today makes 14 years since the passing of Bronx rapper Big Pun. He passed away on February 7, 2000, from a fatal heart attack and respiratory failure. At the time of his passing, he was nearly 700 pounds. As a dedication for his death anniversary, his son Chris Rivers takes on his classic track Beware off his debut album Capitol Punishment

Many artist celebrated his legacy today and took to their social media accounts to show their appreciation for the Latin emcee.

Random fact about Beware, the track samples “Shook Ones Pt. 1 by Mobb Deep and Theme for Loser by Henry Mancini. It was also used in “Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories.”

Oftentimes on my fathers death date I would write something in regards to his passing to express the moments emotion and maybe post a picture. But this year through the evolution of my artistry I can finally have the rare pleasure of taking something that he loved and remake it to honor his memory. I chose the song Beware it being the first song on his first album Capital punishment and one of his most memorable tracks and the beginning of a legendary journey. You’ve been gone 14 years but you haven’t for a second been forgotten. I love you pops.
