He strives so hard to be a Kendrick or a Kanye – maybe he paved the way for Kendrick – but does anyone seriously believe that he is (or ever will be) capable of making a new album as consistent and flawless as his first two? He went Dwight Howard-bitchy around the time of Lasers. And ppl do not like that unless it’s on some Kanye type of shit. Like Kanye can do whatever he wants – because that is what we all expect from him on some level. Lupe is more in the conscious lane or was – and nobody expected him to do what he did. He sold out, wouldn’t admit it – blamed it on the label – and kept on making the same type of weird EDM/Rockish even when he had creative control (FOTP). He went “full retard” at some point. When I see a new Lupe track I always listen to it because of his previous body of work and because I enjoyed parts of his last album. I somehow always come away disappointed. His lyricism is always on point. He just kind of lost his edge. He isn’t as interesting anymore in my eyes. Had he stayed tighter with ‘Ye his career might have looked different today. I’ll say: Relax Lu’, take your time and be original. The last time I’ve heard something truly original from him was “Double Burger with Cheese”.

He did NOT change his sound for the label. When Friend Of The People dropped everybody was expecting that old Lupe flavor that we came to know him for. It was made to be “the real Lasers”. But what did we get? Lasers pt. II. No record label has influence on their artists mixtapes so how do you explain that shitty pop sound? Since you seem a bit “simple” I will explain: When he was in TOTAL control of the outcome of the tape, and he STILL made the SAME bullshit. It was HIS OWN sound – the sound that HE went for on Lasers.

FOTP was full of Lasers throwaway beats, which stems from the same situation. But those beats weren’t exactly like Lasers, Lasers was more pop. FOTP’s bad stuff was more electro than pop.
Lupe was on board with the electro stuff, he had started a small DJ gig with some other niggas by then. that’s why Friend of the People sounded like it did. The Lasers sound – which was DIFFERENT but still bad – was mostly out of his control.

1.He hasnt made a classic album since F&L (The Cool is a classic in many peoples mind. Also one classic album is one more than 99% of rappers)

The truth is Lupe attracts so much hate because he says the things that most n*ggas are afraid to hear or refuse to hear. If you listened to his message, you would be forced to critically think about many things (Hip-hop, Money, Wealth, Race, Government, US Foreign Policy, etc). Also it is basically impossible to understand all of his rhymes on the first listen. Many of his song (including this one) require a little research. Many n*ggas dont want to do that. But they cant ignore him completely, he is too talented. So they must hate.

I know how Lupe sees rap, and how he writes it down. He is a lyricist. He doesn’t care much for beats and such. He does it for the love. He realised that and quit commercial rap. These are just some reasons why he doesn’t appeal to the people. A lot of people talk down on him. He sees beyond that, and makes music for Hip Hop, not you.

Lasers sucks donkey scrotum! You lost me at 6. Lasers doesn’t just suck, it sucks because his prior releases were phenomenal (a drastic let down effect). This let down effect was further magnified by the fact that Lupe whined about the label not releasing the project and the nigga had his fans protest on his behalf. To drop that piece of shit after all that, utterly pathetic on his part.
Dude is mad talented and arguably one of the greatest “emcees” ever. There is no denying that. 3.Lasers came out in March 2011. Let it go.
4.We all know Lasers is not what Lupe wanted it to be. Hence why it took so long to come out. However, think about if that album included the songs that were supposed to be on there (Shinning Down, What you want, Stereo Sun). It would have been a much more complete album.
So the lesson here is move on. By your own words Lupe is one of the greatest emcees ever. Why continue to harbor on the past? Why miss out on some of the gems that he is putting out now? Why continue to hate? Just stop and enjoy.
