Nas responds to J. Cole’s “Let Nas Down” in a very positive way on this new remix.

    1. Am I first to hear this? Lol. Respect to Nas and Cole. Cole didnt let us down on this album at all!!!!

    2. Nas is the Truth..best rapper hands down..been saying that since ’96. J.Cole knew what he was doing making this song

    3. I don’t know how people can listen to Nas and still think this dude J Cole has talent. Nas’ lyrics are meaningful and well though out. While J Cole’s are simplistic, bland and repetitive. It’s sad that someone like J Cole is the closest thing we have to Nas in this era…In reality he doesn’t even have 1/4 of the talent… It just goes to show how fucked up hiphop is right now. I’m not impressed by J Cole, but this gets 5 stars for Nas.

      1. Cole has A LOT of meaningful songs.

Blind hatred is killing hip hop. You have no idea what you’re talking about.

Cole pours his heart and soul into making hip hop songs.

fuck off with the blind hatred.

      2. say i disagree with your opinion but i respect it because from reading your comment it seems to me as if you have really listened to jcole and formulated your opinion. that is not hate but i still disagree

      3. What hes saying is actually true though. Dont get me wrong J.Cole is talented. But. His flow/cadence does get somewhat repetitive and if your an avid Cole listener you should be able to admit that. You were a bit extreme but I would agree overall as a rapper J.Cole doesn’t have enough FUNK. He has the technical skills but there’s something missing in him as an mc.

      4. Not impressed was a bit harsh, but he spit some truth in there. Hearing Nas on this kinda makes Cole sound like an amateur and dude is pushing 30. Cole just lacks that natural charisma that Nas and some of the other greats have. I don’t see why Cole or anyone else would compare him to Nas. The last artists to come out with Nas like talent were Food n Liquor era Lupe and Jay Electronica. But Jay Elect is only a mere three years younger than Nas and seems to be really lazy.

      5. blackula… It took Cole a while to get a deal and a while to put an album out. This is his second album so while he’s close to thirty he’s only been in the game a short time so yeah he’s still young in this game. If you had a 27 year old rookie enter the NBA that was a good player he’s still a 27 year old rookie learning to play in the league, thats essentially what Cole was. Its going to take him sometime to catch up to veterans and learn the system Nas even notes this in the song when he speaks on making a song like “Workout.” Also your guilty of making the same comparison your condemning about comparison… “Cole just lacks that natural charisma that Nas and some of the other greats have.” Then you proceed to compare him to Nas… “I don’t see why Cole or anyone else would compare him to Nas.” Come on man. Also I think people who don’t like rappers like J.Cole are a product of our soft society. “I don’t like his voice, his flow is kind of annoying, his “funk” is missing (whatever that is), where is the swag…” The best rappers would listen to his bars and break down the double entendres and give Cole his respect as a young artist that continuing to improve. There are very few rappers in the game that are really rapping and Cole is one of them. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but in my opinion most people on blog sites woulda called Pac and Biggie wack.

      6. @NotImpressed Since his lyrics are simplistic J.Cole has a line about an adams apple on the song forbidden fruit can you explain that please?

      7. @ anon, in the original Cole says after Friday Night Lights it seemed the Nas comparisons were coming true. That’s why I said I don’t know why anyone would compare Cole to Nas. A young Lupe, yeah. Cole, sorry, no imo.

    4. Respect to Nas for this. Its aint even about killing J.Cole on his own shit, some of the comments down here are just sad.

He said he passing the crown to Cole and that he hasn’t let him down. Thats the biggest thing a legend can say to a new kid.

Haven’t heard born sinner yet, but I’m sure its gonna be great.

      1. How is Cole a kid though? At 28 he’s a grown ass man, close to 30. The kid thing is kinda like a cop out to me. If he makes a weak song, “oh, he’s just a kid, but he has potential”. When Nas was the same age nobody was patting him on the back. In the 90’s most rappers Cole’s age now were already 10 year veterans.

      2. By kid I meant new to the game. And J.Cole is sick. He keeps going, he’s gonna be one of the greats.

    5. WOW, tears in my eyes that’s one of the best verses I’ve heard from Nas. Cole should be proud receiving a response like this.

    6. Yeah, but J. Cole let Canibus down…. “his favourite rapper”

Pay homage and collaborate only when its a commercially viable option

      1. No he didn’t “let Canibus down”, Canibus is just a bitter loser who disses rappers who happen to be fan of him that are mainstream (Em, Cole, Slaughterhouse) just to get attention and get his fans rallied up.

    7. This an instant classic
and check out All 4 tracks Drake released today ‘Jodeci Freestyle’ Ft. J. Cole, ‘The Motion’ ‘Over Here’ and ‘Versace’ at www. hiphopgood .com they got it all

    8. there really is something other worldly about the energy I feel when I listen to this nigga spit poetry.

    9. Fucking eh. This is some real shit. Legit No I.D. Beat, and Nas is a god damn legend. The original was straight as well. 5/5

    10. this is why i never completely give up on hip hop. this was amazing. nas is constantly lyrical. the mutual respect cole has for nas alone makes this track amazing. but nas responding to it positively is the true gem of this song. 5/5

    12. The fact i had to replay this song 4 times the first time i heard it and fet some shit every time i did says something, the fact that j cole can get the respect from a legend the caliber of nas, shows a much brighter future for hip hop

    13. Nas see the talent in J.Cole. Notice Nas references J.Coles youth a couple of times knowing that J.Cole is just getting started and will continue to improve his craft. Nas kills his bars… He’s Nas. If Nas co-signs Cole I don’t respect anybody else’s opinion on Cole. “He’s the crown…”

    14. Now that’s how you respond to a fan. And acknowledging the fact that you were a fan of someone else before you were considered to be one of the greatest!

    15. I LOVE HIPHOP.

      NAS + COLE. ALBUM PLEASE.
      COLE + KENDRICK ALBUM PLEASE
      ACTION BRONSON + AB-SOUL!
      SCHOOLBOY Q + A$AP ROCKY + LIL SNUPE

    16. I was literally paralyzed for 30 seconds after hearing that. Been a true hop hop follower for 15 years now and honestly might be the best I’ve ever heard.

    17. WOOOOOOOWWWWW Nasir Jones killed this track. I need this mixed and played 10000/day on the radio!!! This song is what hip-hop is all about.

    18. 5stars easily

Nas on beats like this is magic
Talking about Kings in this culture..
      ..luckily Hip Hop has Nas

      Legendary MC

      1. Your opinion doesn’t mean shit to me or to others, probably! Just remember, Elvis did not “invent” rock and roll!

      2. obviously your refering to that mediocre motherfucka Eminem

here’s the difference between Nas and Eminem

1 is unidisputably in the top 25 of all time

        THE OTHER IS EMINEM

1 is a HIP HOP legend

THE OTHER IS A CORNY POP STAR CALLED EMINEM

you catching my drift here lil fella

Eminem isnt even the dopest at Shady Records ROYCE, CROOK and Joell Ortiz>>> Eminem

      3. BRUAHHHHHHHH Jack go suck on a dick, reverse psychology? that shit won’t work cavemen tried it with Wayne and now Yeezloss, that shit is not working anymore.

    19. To the one mother fucker that just had to go and ruin the perfect 5* rating, kill yourself.

For real though, I got goosebumps listening to this. I can’t even imaging how J.Cole must be feeling after hearing this.

    20. Nas’ verse is a bigger co-sign that Jay-z signing Cole. He did more in for him in 4 minutes what Jay couldn’t do in 4 years.

    21. There’s a reason even Kanye had to ponder: What do it take to be a legend like Nas is? Greatness right there.

    22. Great moment for hip hop, folks! Cole delivered on Born Sinner. He definitely made up for his debut, which really only had 3 songs that weren’t up to par….

    23. I read on some blogs and hip hop sites that Cole was only gonna do like 120K the first week. HA! Coley Cole is gonna double that and THEN SOME. 300K the same week vs. the legendary, “critical darling” Kanye? Salute to the new King, J. Cole

    24. The earth spins
      My old earth grin
      Sung a church hymn
She birthed me in September, took my first wind
      Again, the earth spins
I jumped in my first benz, fled out
led out screams, jumped in this game and took bread out.

      SWEET JESUS!

    25. Yes NAS Yes! This is what it’s all about. the humble passing of the torch from one great to the next great. It’s Love! It’s Hip HOP! Peace!

    26. [Jay-Z:]
I be trying to chill, bitches wanna fuck me
Every little city I go, fuck me
Shawty mustve heard, got the word, I move that D
Had it by a bladder, she like “oh I gotta pee”
Ran into a Rothko in my restroom
Singer slash actress in my bedroom
God I have the ticket for a walk through
      Everything that do is big
I talk big money, I talk big homes
I sell out arenas, I call that getting dome
Million dollar voice, came through phone
We heading to the top, if you coming, come on
Im Flying out to Pisa, just to get some pizza
Fly down to Jamaica, just to roll some reefa
Sex on the beach, left love speechless
They say that money talk, tell these other niggas speak up
      Whats up

    27. Truth is Born sinner has surpassed expectations while that so called innovative piece of ‘art’ from Mr. me sounds/smells like garbage even on the 10th listen.

    28. Peace

First one Sideline Story was mehhh, listened to it once and kid seemed to have skills; Born Sinner shows progression and a future, been listening to it for the past few days, Hip-hop truly is not dead. Good job, J.

      Peace

    29. deep track from the 1st to the 2nd pass tha crown like its nothing so you know you didn’t let nas down real lyricism ..

    30. To respond to the comment from earlier, you dont know what Funk is bruhh? Really? Im tryna tell yall as an mc J.cole is missing something. His punchlines are just OK %80 of the time and at times borderline on cheesy. Im not a big Cole fan but bought Born Sinner and I think what it really might be is Cole doesn’t have the charisma of a Nas or Tupac. He comes of as intelligent in interviews and you can tell he is, but does J.Cole really come off as an interesting person? think about it….he has the technical skills but yo sometimes I feel a certain emptiness when I listen to his music like it sounds good but its just…boring for some reason. Dont get it twisted im not a J.cole hater thats just my opinion on him.

      1. shove that BS up ur ass. i bet his lack of charisma is the reason he has a hardcore fan base. not every rapper has to be cocky.

      2. Naa he has a hardcare fanbase cus he can spit and has actual talent. Stop gettin booty hurt cus I said something bad about a nigga who style apparently you see no flaws in. Just cus you want to be on J.cole’s dick doesnt mean I have to be.

      3. Bene The OG is right. Having charisma has nothing to do with being cocky. Some just have it naturally, some don’t. Take politicians for example. The best usually have it. Pres Obama has lots of charisma, but he’s far from a cocky person. Cole has very little to none, but can make up for it in other areas that some gravitate towards.

      4. Cole has charisma (CHECK YOUR DICTIONARY). have you ever seen his live shows. a nigga without charisma can’t rock a crowd. ur agreement with ben the shit is shit since you both don’t know what charisma means.

      5. ^ I’ve seen tons of people say Cole is ‘missing something’. That’s usually what they mean. We’re not the first and won’t be the last.

      6. What he is trying to say is that in interviews J.Cole comes across as a cornball and somtimes boring. Hell, I think Cole can spit and had an impressive album. But, when you’re a cornball, you’re a cornball. Simple as that

    31. as Eva replied I’m alarmed that a single mom able to profit $6325 in 1 month on the computer. have you seen this web site caf44.o

      1. Just as anne said if you go on google and type and God he will appear to you in physical form as well.

      2. Anne stop lying to everyone, Eva never said that. Stop putting words in her mouth you stupid internet robot….your ‘website’ doesn’t even work you silly billy!

    32. Chills…that saxophone is just crazyyyyyyyy!!!!! Nas speaks so vividly and just pure dope. a moment. hip hop is slowly but surely returnin to its essence. classic track

    33. WOW those couple verses were 100 percent better than coles album. nas is the best and jcole cant even hold a candle to this legend

    34. crying man tears. this is what my ancestors picked cotton for.. this moment right here. can’t breathe nigga. i can’t breathe

    35. Wow I loved this! Maybe even more than the original. Nas forever. Nas Wrote the bible. Cole don’t let Nas down, he just passed that crown.

    36. Amazing. Nas flow is unbelievable on this. beautiful, sincere and meaningful as always..love nas. love j cole. love hop hop

    37. How is this anything short of poetry? Sincere, pure, the essence of hip-hop in this exchange. On some man shit, my eyes well up listening to this. If you’re not sharing this sentiment with me, you’ll never understand but that’s fine; that’s what makes hip-hop, hip-hop.

    38. Imagine if Rakim would have done something like this for Nas instead of being a bitter, jealous, faggot and dissing him.

      1. as much as i love ra, i have to agree. You could tell that rakim never liked Nas, i’m not sure if that is because ppl were saying Nas was 2nd coming while ra was still relevant. I’m not sure why rakim took that out on Nas, but the dislike is evident. Most hurtful thing is that Nas openly admitted that he believes Rakim was the greatest before their issues became public.

      2. Agree with both posters regarding Rakim. You could tell in the interview when Rakim was asked about UBR that he was very bitter. I’m positive it had to do with Nas’ longevity and body of worked compared to himself. Nas surpassed his biggest influence like Dilla did with Pete Rock. Except Pete embraced it and calls Dilla his favorite producer ever! Much respect to the greats!

      3. I also love how Nas mentions G Rap and Slick Rick in this song as influences and intentionally excludes Rakim! Take That! Take That!

      4. We see how Kobe is rvals with Lebron ad we saw how Lebron acted when Jordan made his comments!!! Life….sadly.

    39. This is as good as it gets!!!! the king of rap response to the prince telling him that he is proud and passing the crown. J Cole has officially been handed the crowned

    40. THIS SHIT GAVE ME GOOSE BUMPS!!! I JUST HEARD HIP HOPS HEART BEAT!!! THE KING HAS OFFICIALLY PASSED THE CROWN!!! #BORNSINNER

    41. Best song Ive heard in my life… I just love the whole concept of what Nas did. J cole earned this one. Born Sinner is a great album

    42. man…Nas response is crazy….I know Jcole had a fit when he heard this. A song where Jcole is paying heartfelt respect and Nas excepting and respecting Cole back….I believe this is the first time this has ever happened…

    43. Since after Distant Relatives Nas has been completely in the zone. I think he gave us an album that we have been wanting from him for a while with LIG, and his ear for production is much better than he gets credit for. Put his words on paper and there probably isn’t a more gifted writer in ANY genre of music…Nas is the Roger Federer of rap except without the decline in skills with age

This track is effortlessly good, just more classic material for the man who has more than anyone else. Far better than anything on Yeezus, and definitely the album as a whole. This could actually be a huge thing for Cole’s growth as an artist. Lot of people would like to give him shit for seeming so sensitive about Nas’ feelings, but his track is straight dopeness.

    44. From the Legend to the fan who is becoming a legend. This is true hip hop. I love it. I know Cole appreciates this more than anything. I’m glad he realizes Hip Hop isn’t about radio hits. That’s what Tupac, Biggie, Jay-Z, Eminem, and Nas all realized. They’re true Hip Hop and I hope Cole becomes that. The fans will buy the album if it’s good music, don’t worry. Dr. Dre sold a lot of albums too.

    45. All I can say is YEAH YEAH YEAHHHHH.!!!!!….dope
Got my shot right here!!!…feaning for more dopeness!!!

    46. WOW!!! My man the ilmatic drops another. Dude is the best flat out. Agreed he’s been ON since Distant relatives.

      Underground

    47. DAMN!!!… that says it all.

gotta love NAS payin respect for those that he influenced with his skill, knowledge, and social comentary. NAS is one of the best and J. Cole has certainly began his ascent.

    49. Gucci is the BEST rapper alive and heres why.
      1) all other rappers rap about being gangster shooting and killing but they havent done it.
      2) Eminem raps about killing he hasnt.
3)Jay z raps in open letter about sending shots he hasnt.
4)Nas raps about how he is a queens thug but he wasn’t.
5)Most of the rappers rap about stuff they havent done yet you all support them and say its real rap.
6)When rick ross does it you all claim he is fake and say its fake rap.

This shows that hiphop fans are hypocritical and all these real hiphop fan wanna be’s are just some unjustified haters whose opinions are just as irrelevent as the swag fag rapper fans.

BIG GUWOP KILLED A MAN HE WAS A DRUG DEALER BEFORE RAPPER HE HAS STREET CREDENTIALS HE IS THE ONLY RAPPER THAT RAPS ABOUT FACTS THERE FORE BIG GUWOP IS THE REALEST RAPPER IN THE RAP GAME AND THATS A FACT!!!!

      1. i just threw up a lil…. i’m so sad.. i hope this is a joke…. first of all.. EVERY rapper exaggerates.. but beyond that.. who the hell told u that “real” and “skill” were the same thing?? if thats the case.. Drake is the realest rapper in the game because he doesn’t rap about killing he raps his feelings.. no matter how embarrassing.. please listen to music because of the music.. not because u know the man is a murderer so it makes his music better… if geeks started rapping about reading books… it would not make the music sound better.. u wouldn’t think they were the greatest rappers ever

    50. After hearing these two joints I’m a J Cole fan! I liked his flow and liked his music but dude has come into his own. thats hip-hop!!!

    51. After i heard this some tears rolled down my eyes…. it should have been Nas AND Pac on this joint telling this young black man how great of a rapper he is and how proud they were for him for trying to educate his fellow African Americans and for being a good idol for his people. Instead, Pac is dead and we all miss him and we were robbed of a possible remix with both OGs.

    52. Wow..all I can say is wow..First thought is Nas passing the baton to young Cole who paid homage to the greatest lyricist of all time…Then you listen to Nas’ verse and realise..that nobody is fucking with dude to this day..not Kendrick, not Cole, not Ab-Soul…nobody …deep, thoughtful, slick as bars for days…
      WOW>>

    55. This is perfect and nas killed it in every way imaginable. But i will say that i don’t worship this rappers. The dick licking on this site is beyond repair and i swear if most of these artist wrote a bible i am sure you fools would be all over like white on rice. 5/5 but i have heard nas spit way harder than this. my 2cents if you dont like it…………..

    56. Some of the comments on this joint is what is wrong with hip hop today…This is a HIP HOP classic. 10/10 if I was able. You all are welcome to debate it but damn this joint is GOOD

      1. not close to crying, but i got goose bumps when Nas says “you aint let nas down”

        Cop that cole album!

    57. Passed Cole the crown he says? Lol Cole aint worth having a crown made up of my shit…Cole needs to be more lyrical and its sad to say that even drake has better lyrics than cole and i fuckin hate faggot drake

      Nevertheless, 5 stars for lyrics.

    58. 5 stars. Great story telling from the great Nas. new rappers better pay attention. We need a new nas album, hopefully by the end of the year

    59. There is no one greater than Nasir Jones! What’s sad is that lyrically this is better than both Yeezus and Born Sinner.

      spanky:
crying man tears. this is what my ancestors picked cotton for.. this moment right here. can’t breathe nigga. i can’t breathe

    64. 5 star general of rap! Nas is the illest…can’t pass the crown yet, when you still rhyme like this!

    65. Wow, Nas is a beast! Would love to hear Nas on the remix to ”New York Times”. By the way, Jay-Z need to market himself to be the greatest, whereas Nas just need to spit rhymes. Hence, Nas is the greatest!

    66. I dont feel diz shit. Nas is too old and washed up, I never understood his shitty lyrics. like what da fuck is he talkin bout? diz nigga aint no gangsta. oh and J Cole dat nigga is borin rapper and producer. Drake is betta. swag

      1. Props to So Icy Boi! Keep dropping them gems! Correct me if I’m wrong, but the song ‘Full Clip’ by Gang Starr is one of the most played songs on your ipod/itunes?

      2. You should know better he talking facts hip hop will be better when all the old dudes just retire . Nas,Jay,Em,Wu,D Block,Game, hip hop will be in a better place once they all retire and never make music again

You 25+ old timers need to leave this too the new school artists

      3. @I AM 13: Preach on my brother! We need more opinions like this, although I am aware that this may not be your actual opinion, maybe you’re saying this just to provoke ”real heads”, it is important that opinions like this has faces/nicknames attached to it. Because in real life, there is actually quite a lot of kids that are lacking cultural capital in general, who makes statements like you and So Icy Boi!. I fucks with So Icy because he/they provoke fuckybergs who thinks they are ‘real hip hop heads’ just because they’re favorite album is Illmatic or 36 Chambers or that they don’t fuck with Young Money or 2 Chainz, but actually they are fuckybergs. Keep on preaching, but step your pen/keyboard game up! Just the fact that you don’t press ‘space’ after a ‘comma’ or ‘dot’ when finishing a sentence, makes you (and I don’t mean ”I AM 13” as a internet commentator, but you as the person who goes to bed and wakes up going to work/school/corner etc) look like a retard who is not good for anything.

      4. Were’s your sentence structure “OLD BOY” re-read your paragraph.

Get you’re shit together before you talk shit about my grammar you should know better at your age !

      5. ^ L.O.L Your a grown man who trolls a hip hop site . Why would i give a fuck what some old unemployed man thinks .

      6. @ I AM 13

unemployed? it’s my job you asspirate. and you should care cause da old man can touch your young ass. swag

      7. @So Icy Boi!: That’s right So Icy Boi! I saw potential in I AM 13, but like you said, it turned out that he’s a fuckboy that needs a hug.

@I AM 13: Actually, I also had several grammar mistakes too, but your retardeness only focused on the sentence structure. How did the worm taste fuckboy? Make sure you take the hook out of your mouth carefully. Btw, I will make sure that my grammar and sentence structure is on point for my dissertation, which is about how the Barclay Center and Brooklyn Nets will impact the crime rates Crooklyn Vietnam!

      8. @YO: Never, ever, ever, mention Soulja Boy and Waka in the same sentence when you’re criticizing proponents of ”anti-real-hiphop”. Waka’s song ”For My Dawgs” is on some real shit which reflects/portrays the mind state of young black males in the ghetto’s of USA. Fuckyberg!

      9. @ilovehiphop . To think you are only in the world because 25+ years ago someone was to retarded/lazy to pull out !!

@ SoIcyGirl . What more can i say to you that your parents haven’t already told you . You can be more than a troll

      10. @I AM 13: Sorry for making you mad. I was just trying to give you some constructive criticism, but it seems like you’re going Mel Gibson on me. I’m not 25+, but anyway, even though if someone pulls out, there is still a significant chance that the female will become pregnant. So for your own sake, I hope that you (in the real life) actually don’t believe that you can pull out and the girl don’t ends up pregnant. I am here because pops did not use a condom, he had a great passion for hitting it raw. Actually, relatively important people in society views me as a useful resource in society. Matter of fact, I don’t get the logic of your comment. Could you please elaborate on it?

      11. @ilovehiphop

My logic is that you should’ve been aborted 7 months into pregnancy and that it’s a cryin’ shame your dad’s spunk was potent enough to pierce your mom’s scrambled eggs. Ehehehe. P.S. Yeezus > Fag Miller > Born Faggot

      12. @25+ilovehiphop

I would have expected or stupidly hoped for a more engaging exchange of words from someone of your age .

Instead you revert to type and just get angry and mad .

I am very disappointed with you at this point and i do apologize for rebuking you in such a harsh way. However i think my words will not only benefit you personally but the hip hop DX community as whole for you and soicygirl to up your troll game

      13. @I AM 13: Dude, this was not an elaboration. Why should I have not been born? You’re mad now! CUUUUUUUUUURTIS!!!

    67. hot shit

      stop comparing Jay to Nas

Nas just said in this very song he a legend just like himself…

      1. Sounds like you never been to a barbershop before. Actually, sounds like you never lived in an area or neighborhood that has a barbershop. Hence, shut the F up u suburban fuckyberg and make sure you don’t fail any of your college courses!

      2. @lol Sorry about that, I did not expect at all that my comment would fly over your head, since it seems that you’re a fan of lyricism. How the fuck do you manage to understand Nas and Jay’s lyrics, when you did not get my point? LOL; you’re probably not able to deconstruct Juicy J lyrics!

    68. From Lefrak Q.B. to Fayettenam N.C. – SALUTE!!!
Slick Rick was like Jesus,K G Rap wrote the Bible,Large Professor the Mentor Now Let tha $tory Begin

    69. Nas is the Shakespeare of this rap game! For those who don’t know Shakespeare is the ultimate European poetic God! Nasir Jones!

      1. @Al: What the fuck do you know about Shakespeare? I could maybe understand if you would say that he’s the Othello of the rap game, but Shakespeare? Step your litterature/poetry game up. At least write that he’s the Langston Hughes of the rap game fuckyberg!

      2. @Anonymous: I did not expect anyone who had read Shakespeare’s Othello would respond; just one of them bates I threw in the water for fuckybergs who writes; ”For those who don’t know Shakespeare is the ultimate European poetic God”. Bless you my brother!

      1. If were going for poets not play writes who happened to write poetry. How about Chaucer or W.B. Yeats or Ovid?

    71. Nas killed him on his own track and shined light on him at da same damn time…smh, best to ever do it!

    72. Nas stepping up to the plate to do what jigga has failed to do for Cole. and dont tell me about a silly feature. imagine what drake got from wayne, birdman, ross, khaled (yea lol), jigga….what kendrick got from Dre,…cole has had nothing besides some loose idea of jigga being behind him.

      1. @Anonymous: You don’t know ish about ish! For your own sake, I hope that you’re a troll. PS! I know ish 😀

    73. Glad Nas didn’t act like Rakim when he did the Autobiography of Rakim without askin, you shouldn’t have to ask to pay homage.

      1. Rakim was mad that Nas went so far in depth, talkin bout shit that had nothing to do with Ra’s skills as an emcee. His childrens names and bdays and shit. A lot of unnecessary shit. He shoulda just spoke on his skills

    74. One Supreme Lyricst passing the torch to another young Lyricst to guide the Sheep to the truth. That’s the problem with Rap, all these new school idiots get all EGOed up and think they the first to do it because they moved some units, Cole stayin grounded and humble paying homage to the Pioneers, may he have a long successful career like Godson.

      1. It suits both, Dumb-ass!!!! Both pay homage and both are lyrical geniuses…This shit just turned the rap world news upside down…

    75. See how it go? Full circle, Nas was influenced by Large Professor, Cool G-Rap, Slick Rick, Rakim then Nas turn around and influence J Cole and the saga continues…

    76. WTFFFF this track is why nas will be dat nigga forever! Hip hop royalty fuck what ju heard!

      1. You don’t know music homie, you want that Drake (same snare cadence shi^?, that Over played trap music?, that same trance synth sequence?) dude, sit back and chill. This is ill AND DIFFERENT from what’s out. That’s the key. Be originality is key.

    77. Wow, that was nice, I will always like Nas over Jay-Z was more about the Hip Hop aspect of the game and Jay-z was more Business I respect both but I align with the Art.

    78. damn man im zonin
always been a ridiculous nas fan

“here the crown / pass it to you like nothin”

        Top 5 Y2K

      2. Honestly that’s a solid/diverse list, but have to replace Big Daddy Kane, Chuck D, and Slick Rick with Pac, Em, and Ghostface. I love Slick Rick and respect his influence (seen him live twice), but his lack of material is a detriment to me.

    81. Oh shit…I think this has been one of the most positive and best response/remixes I’ve heard…Peace God.

    82. j. cole lookin like a dweeb in that pic. nigga look like Bert from sesame street. LMAO! still my nigga tho

      1. No joke. I’ve always thought this! lol. Cole does look like Bert. Especially when the unibrow is in full effect. I thought I was the only one thinking that.

    83. See, this is what hip hop feels like. Lyrics, coastin’ beat and subject matter. Lame azz, swag azz, circus azz fools take note. Yall let Nas Down!

    84. j cole is a faggot. such a lame “artist”. song writing is pathetic. “sorry nas, i suck” “its okay little buddy i do too now”

nas needs to hang it up, he sounds winded, drunk, and retarded.

j cole will never be a star because he’s a bore. all the money in the world backing him and hell never cross that line. jay-z knows he stinks. thats why he keeps his distance. memphis bleek dropped hotter albums than j cole, wake up.

    88. honestly nas gave me chills listening to this and im sure is j cole really cares anything about what nas thinks of him hes going to cry when he hears this.. beautiful and mad poetic

    89. I cant remember the last time I listened to a song and the 10th listen still gave me the same chills as the first. Forgot what that was like. Thank you Nas…

      1. I got a list, here’s the order of my list that it’s in: It goes Reggie, Jay-Z, 2Pac and Biggie / Andre from OutKast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas and then me
        ~ Eminem…

    90. NAS is Hip Hop GOD … He murked it NAS > J Cole , Kenrick Lamar , Drake , Jay Z plus every other rapper out there

    91. funny how everyone acts like they wasn’t bumping to wayne in 04-09 and if you wanna talk lyricism 2pac is garbage lyrically. He just had good subject material. wayne accomplished more than tupac and Biggie because he’s been doing it longer because they’re dead. You faggot ass 2pac and Biggie dick riders just call them the greatest because they’re dead. Fuck Nas that man is overrated as fuck, everyone is such bandwagoners form your own opinions and stop being sheep!

      1. I wasn’t bumping Wayne tracks around 04-09, nor in the years after
About 2Pac. Sure, he wasn’t the most technical MC, but he sure was a poet
So, because Wayne “doing it longer” then Pac & Big, he’s better?…how ironic
And yeah, I know you are a big time troll. but f*ck it I got some time left, your’re welcome

Pac was like Jezus, Nas wrote the bible
In Hip Hop terms, the truest shit Cole ever wrote

      2. Don’t know why Wayne got in this discussion, to each his own. At the end of the day, NaS is undeniable and easily top 5 lyricists. I enjoy music when it’s good. NaS’ reply here is phenomenal and his lyrical execution is consistently at level that makes your favorite rappers usually inferior. @TalentDisplay

      3. you like a mediocre rapper who kisses a aman in the mouth, but we sheep, ignorance at the highest level

      4. so if you dont like pac, biggie, nas, jcole, or wayne,,, who do u like and why do you listen to hiphop? i think the biebs is more up ur ally!!

    98. Jigga hit Nas with a deconstruction of his career, and Nas hit back with playground insults. Admittedly, Jay-Z’s deconstruction was heavily skewed. I mean if you’re gonna dismiss Nas’ second and third albums as inconsequential, you gotta dismiss your own second, third, fourth and fifth albums as well cause to me those are no worse or better. As for Nastradamus, I might be in the minority saying that was an OK album, but I’m also in the minority saying The Dynasty was really tight.

So some of Jay’s ‘Takeover’ shots hit home. ‘Ether’, not so many. The shots at Damon Dash seem pretty accurate, really. But all that shit about dick-sucking lips, having an inferior mustache and wearing Hawaiian shirts etc etc? “I rock hoes, you rock fellas!” Pretty weak. It’s not like Nas doesn’t have grounds to hit back. I mean, he was being criticised for falling the fuck off and making bullshit, money-chasing albums by a dude who had also fallen the fuck off and made bullshit money-chasing albums in his past. (To be honest, I’d still choose Jay’s over Nas’, though I Am… is a classic in my eyes.) But he’s stuck in “YOU’RE A GAY AND UGLY BITCH!” mode. Come on, point out some shit Nas, like how half of Jigga’s albums are punk-smooth club bullshit with Lil Mo and Mariah Carey and Babyface and R Kelly and half are tales of “real $treet $hit from ya boy tha hu$tla nicca”… speak on his albums! He spoke on yours! Damn I really feel like Nas could have gone off on this, still seems like a missed opportunity.

By the end of the tirade of gay jibes and “no, YOU copied ME nigga!” crying, I really hoped this would be enough, that Nas would have had his cathartic release and could GET THE FUCK OVER IT. But then, we have an endless stream of bullshit.

      1. ^^^^
What are you talking about? Nas broke his foot off in Jay’s ass, left it alone, and his mended fences with him since. Jay never battled another MC after that. You harp about the childishness of Ether, yet completely miss the main point of the diss, particularly the hook. The song was about destroying Jay’s monstrous ego, and he accomplished exactly that. The song really diminished Jay’s credibility at the same time, and with the exception of Black Album, Jay never released a classic album after that.

But I do respect your analysis of Jay’s ‘1 hot album in 10 years’ claim as bullshit. I am is massively underrated I agree. But what does the beef have to do with this track?

Even more, you said you would still take Jay’s career over Nas? On what basis? Fame and record sales? Jay hasn’t dropped a solid album in 10 years, and there is no indication that he will drop anything classic at this point in his career. His decline in skills has been precipitous and it is readily apparent to anyone who has listened to Jay throughout his career. Meanwhile, there is nothing to indicate Nas has declined. LIG is probably a classic, and Nas has killed more features in the past two years than anyone else in recent memory. Nas started off at the top of the game, definitely above Jay, and he is still at the top almost 20 years later, definitely above Jay. Jay has 3 classics, but Nas has at least 4-5 and is still capable of giving us more. I don’t think there is any question at this point who the better MC is.

      2. Sorry bro Nas only has three classics compared to four for Hov.

    100. Damn man Nasty Nas murdered the shit outta this track!!! Dis what the fuck i’m talkin’ bout!!!

    101. NaS is amazing. He’s the King of N.Y. and thank GOD he doesn’t make crappy music like French Montana and all those other corny trendy rappers. NaS may not have the record sales of all these bubblegum young money rappers because, well to be honest he doesn’t target teenage girls or boys making disposable music like they do, but he has something special inside him. He’s a mans mans and a rappers rapper, and he has integrity to spare. He is a self educated brother and he conveys a feeling of genuine care for the culture and the people.

I bet u are a little down south hoodrat nigga!

      2. They’re standing on the corner and they can’t speak English.
I can’t even talk the way these people talk:
        Why you ain’t,
        Where you is,
        What he drive,
        Where he stay,
        Where he work,
        Who you be…
And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk.
And then I heard the father talk.
Everybody knows it’s important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can’t be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth.
In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living.

People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an Education, and now we’ve got these knuckleheads walking around.
The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal.
These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids.
        $500 sneakers for what?
And they won’t spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics.

I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit.
Where were you when he was 2?
Where were you when he was 12?
Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn’t know that he had a pistol?
And where is the father? Or who is his father?
People putting their clothes on backward:
Isn’t that a sign of something gone wrong?
People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn’t that a sign of something?

Isn’t it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body?
What part of Africa did this come from??
We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don’t know a thing about Africa …..

I say this all of the time. It would be like white people saying they are European-American. That is totally stupid.
I was born here, and so were my parents and grand parents and, very likely my great grandparents. I don’t have any connection to Africa, no more than white Americans have to Germany , Scotland , England , Ireland , or the Netherlands . The same applies to 99 percent of all the black Americans as regards to Africa . So stop, already! ! !
With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that crap ……… And all of them are in jail.

Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person’s problem.
We have got to take the neighborhood back.
People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different ‘husbands’ — or men or whatever you call them now.
We have millionaire football players who cannot read.
We have million-dollar basketball players who can’t write two paragraphs. We, as black folks have to do a better job.
Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us.
We have to start holding each other to a higher standard..
We cannot blame the white people any longer.’

~Dr.. William Henry ‘Bill’ Cosby, Jr., Ed..D.

    107. I lost respect for Nas’ rap game ever since he signed to def jam. How can u make a diss like ‘ether’ then turn around and shake hands with the same dude who you adamantly referred to as a homosexual. And nobody, including Nas or Jay themselves, can convince me that the beef was nothing more than just a casual hiphop feud where 2 rappers were merely sizing eachother up for the sake of hiphop. Dude said he had sex with his wife and left condoms in his kid’s baby seat. Both of them got on some real personal shit. But it wasn’t even like they both compromised on equal terms by squashing beef. Jay was def jam’s CEO at the time. Jay signed Nas. Nas got shelved. Its like I’m the only one who sees the bigger picture

      1. I know right? Jay got the Forbes list on lock, wifed Beyonce, got the Samsung deal, owns the Nets, fucked Carmen, and signed Nas after ether? I mean Beyonce has more loot than Nas. Nas did get shelved and never released anything of consequence after Takeover did he?

Typical Jay dickrider. Look at the Wayne diss he just released and compare that to the let Nas down remix. Does your BIG PICTURE account for that fact that Jay fell the fuck off and Nas maintained his form to a level that Jay hasn’t come close to in 10+ years. All this bullshit about Jay’s accomplishment OUTSIDE of the quality of music and Nas “failures” OUTSIDE of his. The music was what made them legends in the first place jackass, and based off the strength of Jay’s in the last ten years, he hasn’t done shit. Same cannot be said for Nas.

Keep thinking your perceived grasp of that bullshit BIG PICTURE makes you distinguished. I am laughing my ass off at the bricks Jay drops while LIG has been in steady rotation since it dropped last summer.

      2. Just a concerned hip hop admirer, no residuals apply. Though I could mop the floor with half the critics on this bullshit site… used to be a lot better… the death knell sounded when they gave Yeezus a higher rating than Life is Good

      3. y’all niggas are some tmz-reality-tv-show-watching brainless faggots… oohhh jay on forbes list ooo.. gtfo here. listen to the music.. dont fall for that obsessing over these niggas personal life.. that’s some hoe ass shit.

    108. in come the swarm of nas dickriders. his verse was good but there yall go acting like it was the second coming. it happens everytime nas drops a new verse. these die hard nigga come out the woodworks on some stan shit. his was was dope. yall always taking shit to the extreme it really wasnt that serious.
