Anyone who supports calling anything written a freestyle is being disrespectful to the art and practice of freestyling. Because of the emphasis on entertainment in Hiphop people no longer care about having to be spontaneous and fearlessly present in the moment. Those who are well practiced in the art know the benefits of letting go and manifesting being instead of doing. Hiphop has gotten wacker and wicker because even those that used to defend it as a tool of development still only focus on selling it. Selling it isn’t bad; consciously the consumption/entertainment aspect of Hiphop is very low on the totem pole in terms of Hohop’s potential to truly influence individuals and groups. Being entertained and doing things to excite the ego involves a very low level of awareness of the practitioner and purveyor. So no, freestyling isn’t written ever because if its written youre not free when you’re doing it; you are confined to not only the written word but also by the mind that doesn’t allow one to go beyond fear and hope. I strongly encourage all aspiring emcees to spend time being instead of just writing (doing), because being cultivates a relationship with the mind that transcends concepts. What lies beyond (but including) the conceptual mind is the experience of Hiphop.
