This is not about conscious rap or what not. The is about using music to teach a misconception. As an artist i appreciate what Lupe has done in this song.

Props though, but IMO he shoulda gone with a more contemporary style of approach(more in correspondence to the swaggish movement)to reach more of the younger people, it sounds more like he’s trying to please his old fans. A new generation is running hip hop nowadays, so I feel he should’ve appealed more to them. He has a double album full of songs he can use to appeal to his older hardcore fans, but whatever man. As for the beat, I think it was a clever choice. Usually when he tells a story like this usually it isnt uptempo (Intruder Alert, Streets on Fire for example). A positive message should not always be deep or too insightful. I can hype to this song because of the beat and message put together.

Props though, but IMO he shoulda gone with a more contemporary style of approach(more in correspondence to the swaggish movement)to reach more of the younger people, it sounds more like he’s trying to please his old fans. A new generation is running hip hop nowadays, so I feel he should’ve appealed more to them. He has a double album full of songs he can use to appeal to his older hardcore fans, but whatever man.
