October has to be Ladies Month with two of the leading ladies dropping long over due albums. As the South’s leading rapstress, Trina, has been missing from the music scene for three years, she came straight back into our lives with a bang when her Glamorest Life hit the shelves. Trina is a club kind of gal, she makes clear everyone knows she likes to frequent the clubs; therefore it is more than appropriate that she makes songs for the clubs. So true to form the Glamorest Life is inundated with joints for the clubs just as it is laced with the usual provocative and sleazy wordplay from the Diamond Princess.

Throughout the album you will find her spitting about making sure her man has the goods and the bank balance to maintain a woman of her caliber. Trina has always been known for her fast talk and on this album it is no different; although it is obvious that she has grown and matured in her approach to her music and what she has to offer her fans since she came back off hiatus. Being out of the musical limelight hasn’t kept her from encouraging Hip Hop royalty to come through and pay their respects. Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne who featured on the albums lead off single “Don’t trip,” Mannie Fresh and the favored R&B crooner Trey Songz.

The ultimate club banger on here has to be the Needlz produced track “Throw it Back” featuring Deuce Poppi. In typical Trina style, the track is infused with sultry connotations encouraging the men to do just what the title asks and in return they will be the recipient of precisely what Trina has always stated she is about; a lady who can handle hers! Deuce Poppi is quick to respond to what MissTrina expects with his demands, just as coarsely.

It has been said that Trina isn’t one of the most talented female rappers out there, but you have to give her her props. Her delivery is consistent, she provides her fans with what they require from her and as the old saying goes, ‘If it isn’t broken don’t fix it.’ Trina always manages to put a smile on her fans faces with what she gives them. Were she to change up and go into conscious gear or deliver her jewels in a different way to what she has over her seven year career, the reaction to her may be a little less welcoming. So in true Trina-esque style she keeps it moving using the same formula on the Glamorest Life.

Showing a more sensitive side to her persona comes through on the collaboration with Kelly Rowland “Here We Go” which samples “Tender Love”. Here Miss Trina shows that every woman no matter how ‘fly’, may fall pray to a cheating man. However all women who find themselves being cheated on by their men should grab their Louis’ and bounce in their 745’s rather than listen to excuses.

The close out track “Lil Mama”; which makes us aware of the vocal talents of the Dre – part of production duo Cool and Dre – is welcomed with opened arms after the up beat seduction of the previous twelve tracks. All in all Trina didn’t strike out with her third album, it was a certified hit and will keep her fan base watching for the next time she comes to the plate.
