Young Thug has been locked up for almost two years as part of a sprawling indictment against him and his YSL collective, and leaked video of his cell has provided some insight into what he’s been up to during his time away.
On Monday (January 29), bodycam footage of his compartment being searched for contraband appeared online. The clip, which dates back to June 2022 according to its timestamp, showed a correctional officer stripping the rapper’s room.

Among the notable details of his living space was a pile of books stashed away under the mattress. Aside from the Gone Trilogy plus copies of the Wall Street Journal and USA Today, the titles of his reading material are tough to recognize.
“By the amount of books in that cell, we might be seeing a more powerful, educated, and informed Young Thug upon release,” one person commented under an Akademiks reshare of the video, while another added: “Full of books…feeding his brain.”

It is also worth noting that the Atlanta rapper’s cell wall had a picture of him and ex-fiancée Jerrika Karlae from their time as a couple, despite them calling off their engagement in December 2020 over the rapper’s alleged abuse.
Eagle-eyed fans noticed a number of other photos of her in Thug’s space, alongside pictures of Mariah The Scientist, his current girlfriend who he began dating in 2021.

The 32-year-old rapper, who remains behind bars, later posted a picture of Mariah on his Twitter account with the caption: “All I want. All I see.” Though he didn’t specifically say so, many assumed it was a response to the leaked footage.
This was the second Young Thug jail video to leak in recent weeks following footage of a private phone call between the YSL leader and his partner. The clip, which appeared to be from around Christmas, showed her thanking him for gifting her jewelry while expressing how much she missed him.
“What’s up, baby. Merry Christmas,” the singer said before blowing a kiss in his direction. “I love you. I miss you and I love you. Thanks for my gifts.”
The “Lifestyle” hitmaker then asked: “Them chains heavy?”

In response, she said: “They’re heavier than the bracelets for sure […] I like it a lot, I’m very appreciative. Thanks babe. I miss you. I wish that you could be at home with me. You could put it on me. I miss you.”
