Young Scooter‘s confrontation with Atlanta police that led to his death may have been caused by a hoax phone call.
The 39-year-old rapper died during a foot chase with officers last week when he injured his leg while attempting to climb a fence.

Police claimed that they were initially responding to a 911 call about shots being fired and a woman being violently attacked at Scooter’s home in a quiet cul-de-sac in South Atlanta.
Audio of the call, obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta, raises questions about the events that led up to the fatal incident.

In the call, a female voice claims that she had just witnessed a naked woman being dragged out of the house and attacked by at least one male.
“It sounded like they were fighting over drugs,” she says. “The girl is hurt. She was bleeding profusely from her head […] She’s trying to get away and she’s being held hostage.”
The woman, who claims to be “neighborhood watch,” then alleges that a shooting broke out: “She had someone come over there and they started shooting.”
The caller also raises concerns about child endangerment, claiming that the female victim “has a baby,” and says she has long suspected that the house was a drug den or home to a prostitution ring.

When police officers arrived at the property, however, they did not find any evidence of the disturbing scene described in the call, according to TMZ.
Instead, Young Scooter and another man fled when cops knocked on their door. Scooter would then die from injuries he suffered during the subsequent chase after reportedly rupturing his femoral artery.
Police are said to be investigating the nature of the 911 call and are attempting to track down the anonymous person who made it.
Lieutenant Andrew Smith explained the incident during a press conference last week, saying: “Once officers arrived, they knocked on the door. A male opened the door and immediately shut the door on the officers. During [the officers’] process of [then] establishing the perimeter, two males fled out of the rear of the house.”

He continued: “One male returned back into the house. The other male jumped two fences as he was fleeing. When officers located him on the other side of the fence, he appeared to have suffered an injury to his leg. Officers rendered aid, and he was transported to Grady Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.”
Smith added that Scooter’s injury “was sustained not via the officers on scene” but when he “was fleeing.”
