Yelawolf & DJ Paul Announce Plans For Heavy Metal-Inspired Album

On 2011’s Radioactive, Yelawolf worked with former Three 6 Mafia member Gangsta Boo on the song “Throw It Up.” Now, Yela has announced his plans to work more extensively with the Hypnotize Minds camp. Late yesterday (July 22), the Gadsen, Alabama emcee announced that he is doing a full album with Three 6’s co-founder DJ Paul.

“The Legendary DJ Paul of Three 6 [Mafia] and I have decided to do an Album,” wrote the Shady/Ghet-O-Vision/Interscope Records artist on Instagram, from a Nashville, Tennessee studio. He also added that the album will use “All Heavy Metal and Hard Rock samples.”

DJ Paul, who, with Juicy J, has produced for UGK, Santigold and Lil Flip, has recently announced his latest group, Da Mafia 6ix. The crew includes Gangsta Boo, Lord Infamous, Crunchy Black and other former members of the Academy Award-winning Memphis, Tennessee group.

In the post, Yelawolf affirmed his plans for a Country Cousins collaborative album with Big K.R.I.T. still in the works. Last year, Catfish Billy released Psycho White, with Blink 182 drummer/producer Travis Barker.

    1. whats wrong with hiphop beats? Fuck metal beats this shit was already done 100.000 times by RUN DMC, Beastie Boys, Public Enenmy, Ice T etc.

      1. those bands werent really doing heavy metal more rock n roll kinda shit, maybe ice-t but was that maybe more punk? i dont remember and i aint about to revisit that body count shit

      2. I’d rather hear that than these computerized fruity loop beats in hiphop right now. There’s only a few good new producers out right now.

    2. i can only imagine how much this will sound like garbage. that psycho white shit with travis barker was bad enough!

    3. Must be some kind of law that every white rapper has to make at least one metal-inspired song or album in their career.

    4. The last rock sample that was perfectly used that I can remember was Aerosmith on “Sing for the Moment” by Eminem. He killed that! I’d much rather hear them rap over live rock/metal instrumentation to give it a raw feel, but anyway I’m still looking forward to this.

    5. I’m a close friend of Lil Wayne and he is not happy about diz project. Wayne is tired of unoriginal niggaz tryin to copy him. he was da first rapper who made a rock project Rebirth and now everybody wanna do rock (Kid Cudi, Kanye, etc). Weezy is da true innovator of hip hop! YMCMB for life. swag

    6. this is gonna be so fucking dope!.yelawolfs winning right now ! so many dope feaured from juciys new album to being on da mafia six..im fucking amped to here this shit he knows good music!!..we need that love story!

    7. Why y’all keep jocking rock n roll so hard, I don’t see no heavy metal nigga doing a rap album

      1. Then what’s nu-metal. Most of those type of bands do ‘rap’. I guess they gotta hop on trap beats to make it simple for your retarded ass

    8. To be honest, I’d rather Yelawolf puts everything into his 2nd album. Radioactive wasn’t bad, but I was expecting much much better. It still had some good stuff like Get Away, Hard White (verses were dope), Growing Up in the Gutter, Throw It Up, Animal, Last Song, etc.

But I wanna hear the new album and Country Cousins.

    9. Fuck that. I love yelawolf but not feelin metal with rap. I love tech n9ne but hates when he does it too

    10. WOW. This is going to be fucking epic. Hopefully people now go back and listen to Stereo — that shit was on another level and super creative.

Yelawolf is silently changing the game, while staying a true artist and doing it all for the Love of Music.

SERIOUS CATALOG BEING BUILT OVER HERE…

    11. SAMPLE SOME METALLICA, THAT WOULD BE DOPE!!!

BUT DON’T JUST SAMPLE A BUNCH OF GUITARS – UNLESS U ONLY WANNA APPEAL TO REDNECKS!!

    12. Yelawolf is one of the most amazing artists to enter the music world and his catalog is getting insane. Truly a blessing for Hip Hop to have this perspective and talent to bless the mic. Exciting to think about what else this dude has up his sleeves — he’s 3 steps ahead of others musically. Honored to be a fan!!!
