Yasiin Bey is following up news of his first solo project in five years with an announcement of another upcoming album — this one in partnership with The Alchemist.
On Friday (December 27), the enigmatic rapper and the prolific producer shared news of an upcoming live event in Paris in January, 2025 where they will be “Premiering new materials from their debut recording to be released in 2025” — a recording that will be called Forensics.
The event will take place on Saturday, January 25 at Le Trianon in the City of Light. Tickets are available here.
Check out the announcement below.
As mentioned, this is Bey’s second new music announcement in recent days. Earlier this month, he shared information about an album called Money Christmas, which includes production from the legendary Large Professor.
Money Christmas is accompanied by artwork designed by Spanish-Moroccan artist Anuar Khalifi. Titled “Osanta Bin Lyin,” the painting adds to the Black Star MC’s bold political statements by depicting the late 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden in a Santa Claus costume.
Much like previous projects, the effort will not be released through traditional channels such as streaming services.
On December 15, the artist formerly known as Mos Def premiered the project for fans during a livestream and revealed it will soon be available on Bandcamp for $9.99. Video playback from the stream will be available for those who paid to watch the initial stream, and will also be available for purchase.
The material will also be released on vinyl in the coming months.
While Money Christmas will end a drought of new solo music from Yasiin Bey, fortunately it doesn’t look like it will be followed by another dry spell.
According to a press release, the project is “the first of a number of upcoming releases intended to inextricably link the acquisition of music to the artwork and supporting video footage, creating a stronger and more creative bond with fans.”
Bey is no stranger to an unorthodox rollout, having released his 2019 album Negus exclusively as a listening experience in museums around the world.
The eight-track, 28-minute project, which has yet to be made commercially available, sought to “acknowledge the importance of Hip Hop as a fundamental American art form […] without the distractions of technology.”
This should be good. Al has been on a roll it feels like I really like the joint albums with marciano, Boldy, Larry June in particular. Not to knock his rapping skills but I prefer him much more when he’s just making the beats. He just doesn’t fit the image or natural skills of a rapper in my opinion no offense. As far as Mos I hope he can rekindle some of the form he had on black on both sides and the first blackstar album. Excited for this
This will be dope. I can’t wait.
I know Al will deliver but Yassin? Not so sure.
I just noticed that I’m white, can someone unbleach me?
I just noticed how we blacks resemble actual pieces of shit after taking a dump and staring down the toilet bowl.
Damn Bey, you might want to see a doctor if you’re shitting black, a healthy turd should look like a Hindu. … You must be eating all that coal Santa left you or some shit.
Black stool generally means blood and disease. It’s hilarious when racist white boys are rallying round a biracial collab because they feel threatened though this project will inevitably suck. Alchemist is a heavily overrated trash producer and Mos Def lost most of his credibility when he officially changed his moniker just like Cat Stevens. At least Prince had legit financial reasons to back it up lol. Some people no matter how talented are just always starved for attention.
Yes sir!!! Man I really want Al to deliver something different, something good…but i also need Mos to deliver on the lyrics, i’m ready to hear some grown up greatness, his boy Talib is delivering some super dope stuff these days!
@YASIIN BEY Hopefully that will shut @THE ALCHEMIST up
This gonna be trash.
Absolutely here for this. C’mon Mos!
@Sound Advice Actually black stool is a result of a person’s diet. Green vegetables heavy in iron will cause this. And it appears that you have no problem with @THE ALCHEMIST’s comment and no surprise there.
pre-dict’g this project as trash shows your definitely NOT ‘pre’ – but, full baked complete ‘Dick’.
