Wiz Khalifa has been smoking weed for quite some time, and despite what one may think about the herbal remedy, it actually helps him perform better.

The Taylor Gang CEO sat down with GQ earlier this month to discuss his transition from partying hard every night in his 20s to being on a disciplined workout and eating schedule that includes being up before the sun rises. When discussing his weed intake, Wiz revealed it actually helps with his breath control – which is important both in the gym and on the stage.

“Nah [I don’t get winded at all] – I got really good cardio,” Wiz said. “I honestly think smoking weed helps my wind a little better because I have breath control and I’m able to take these deep, long breaths that normal people who don’t drag strong marijuana—they don’t experience that.”

For those seeking fit-spiration, Wiz also broke down his schedule and what made him transition from his partying era.

“I go to bed around 10:30 or 11 every night. I’ve been pretty routine with it,” Wiz said. “It’s really important that I get that rest so that I can get back up and be fresh the next day. There are days when it can go to 2:30 or five in the morning and instead of waking up normally at five, I might wake up at 10. But everyone has to be ready for that because that’s not something that can just happen. On a normal day, I’m in bed by midnight and I’m able to get up before the sun rises.”

He continued: “In my 20’s, I partied hard, and I stayed up. I didn’t have too much of a grip on what it felt like to feel good the next day. I was just trying to live the most out of each moment every night. The older that I got and the more that I got into the gym, I realized the start of the day is really important. I have to try and shut it down at a good time so I can get started at a good time.”

Weed has been the topic of Wiz’s conversations quite often these days, and the Pittsburgh native recently called out people who jump on their soap boxes to preach about quitting weed when it hasn’t even been that long since they stopped smoking.

“Check this out: if you smoked weed for the majority of your life and you just stopped smoking weed, don’t try to convince everybody that your life has changed so much just ‘cause you quit smoking weed, dog,” Wiz wrote in a series of tweets earlier this month. “That shit – it don’t happen that fast. Tap in about 15 years when the effects really kick in. A year, a couple days, a few months… That ain’t long enough to see no progress, fam. Straight up.

“And if you wasn’t getting shit done off of weed, it’s probably just ‘cause you don’t know how to get shit done,” he continued. “Some people eat too much and they get fat. You gotta know how to moderate that shit. So if you been smoking 10-15 years, tap in 15 years later if you not smoking weed and then make a fucking video.”
