The outlet further confirmed that the three previously released films have grossed $891million to date, and the outlet is anticipating that the newest installment will have a similarly successful box office.

Part of Sony’s release date shuffle has to do with the ongoing strikes with the SAG/AFTRA guild and the WGA, for which Will Smith recently voiced his support, calling the strikes a flashpoint for the industry.

“I wanna talk for a second about ACTING,” he wrote on Instagram on Friday (July 28). “As some of y’all mighta heard, my guild, @SAGAFTRA are on strike along with our writer colleagues in the WGA. It’s a pivotal moment for our profession.

“33 years into my career as an actor and there are still some days when I feel like I’m that kid from Philly who’s on borrowed time, even though I know I’ve been extraordinarily blessed and lucky to have worked as an actor all this time. It’s thanks to my friend, my teacher and my mentor @aaronspeiser whom I fondly refer to as ‘coach’ that those days when I feel like I don’t belong are fewer and further between.”

Back in April, TMZ shared some exclusive behind the scenes photos from the set of Bad Boys 4, which showed the 54-year-old actor smiling from cheek-to-cheek while on set in Atlanta as he patted the backs of co-workers. The photos were the first update to arrive after Smith and Martin Lawrence first revealed plans for Bad Boys 4 back in January.

Will Smith made the announcement official with a post to social media declaring: “It’s about that time,” as he pulled up to his co-star’s house with “Shake Ya Tailfeather” from the Bad Boys II soundtrack booming through his car’s speakers.

“It’s about that time. It’s official. Bad Boys for life,” Smith emphatically stated before they both realized 2020’s installment already used that title for the movie. “We shouldn’t have called it that though. The three was the ‘E’ but this is Bad Boys 4.”
