Chicago MC Vic Mensa recently offered some thoughts on the gun debate, specifically addressing the idea of arming teachers that Donald Trump has been suggesting publicly since a mass shooting at a Parkland, Florida high school killed 17 people earlier this month.
Mensa was clear in his opposition to the idea, explaining that it’s in no way a logical solution to the gun problem facing the United States. Mensa added that the debate over whether or not to arm teachers is a distraction created to further line the pockets of the National Rifle Association (NRA).
“Giving guns to teachers, it’s absolutely asinine,” Vic Mensa said while speaking with TMZ. “It’s so backwards. Anybody saying that has clearly never been to a public school. And it’s all just a diversion from big money lobbyists with the NRA. It’s not a real logical solution. It’s not even an idea. It’s just a distraction, so that people can keep making money off of these kids getting killed.”
Later in his commentary, Mensa shared his belief that AR-15s should absoluted be banned.
“It’s the people they’re voting for that are making money off of them getting killed,” he said. “It’s a shame. Point blank you gotta ban AR-15s. You don’t need an AR-15 to kill a deer … It’s being made a much more complicated issue than it really is. It’s not complicated. America is built off of blood and greed. And that’s they way it’s always been. Does that mean that’s the way it always has to be? No.”

The vast majority of gun-related deaths are due to individuals using handguns. An incredibly small proportion are due to ARs and other automatic weapons. But it’s an emotionally charged topic, so I’m not surprised to see people making arguments without facts to back them up
Also, Vic was arrested on a felony gun charge last year.
And the funny thing is most of these mass shooters choose close quarters environments when deciding what to attack. Handguns are just as deadly in those situations. The Virginia Tech shooter killed 32 and wounded 17 with just a Glock 19, extended clips, and a Walther as a backup pistol. I think AR-15s are largely just a status symbol for these mass shooters. The gun looks “tough” and gives everything that CoD vibe. I mean yeah you can ban AR-15s but it’s not going to make any of these shootings less deadly

so what happens when someone walks in with double pistols as opposed to one semiautomatic AR-15? How many more people are really going to live? Schools need better security. They need an armed officer at every single open door. Don’t give every teacher a gun, it’s over kill. In addition, they always get kids when the fire alarm is pulled. There needs to be a new procedure for that as well. How about only fire alarms in classrooms? If you see a fire in the hallway, run to a teacher you know and ask them to pull the fire alarm. There’s so many ways to improve this. Do regular citizens need AR-15s? Of course not. But if you think the violence stops with banning AR-15’s, you are sadly mistaken. Funny hearing all these rappers who brag about guns voice some sort of hypocritical opinion on things Trump says.

The 2nd amendment was adopted to keep a well armed militia, which was necessary because we didn’t have a strong standing army and feared invasion from the British. The militia was made of men who lived in cities and towns, so of course they kept their weapons at home. We now bend words that were written 100s of years ago to fit our narrative.
