Tyler, The Creator has never been afraid to speak his mind, and he’s now torn apart G.O.A.T. debates stating that Top 5 lists don’t matter because music is subjective.
The Igor hitmaker sat down with the Rap Radar podcast and tore into the Top 5 debates, saying most of them are just “performative.”

“Bro, who gives a fuck?” Tyler said. “You know what annoys me is when people are like, ‘This is my Top 5…’ and you got 17-year-olds like, ‘Yeah fucking Ready To Die and Enter The Wu-Tang is my favorite Top 10 album ever,’ like, bro, you just got hair on your dick.”
He continued: “It’s performative, and again some people might be right, but you got YoungBoy’s and Baby’s out here and that’s your favorite album? I don’t care about people’s objective top nothing, tell me what is your favorite. Because you learn so much from people and get context.

“I wanna know why you think Pookie Dookie’s second album is your favorite. ‘I have memories attached to it, my brother did this that and on track 7 he talks about this. I found out I was going through it.’ I wanna hear that.”
Tyler concluded: “I don’t care about no objective top. The kids be doing it with me. They do a tier list of A,B,C,D of the albums they like of me and then ask people thoughts. You’re asking people their thoughts on what you hold to your heart? What kind of stupid shit is that. That’s why I fucking hate rap Twitter. Everything is performative, everyone is making these lists just to have people engage. Who gives a fuck who the Top 3 is?”
Tyler isn’t the only rapper who has questioned the validity of such lists. Following Billboard and VIBE’s contentious “50 Greatest Rappers Of All Time” list in February, Lil Wayne responded to his No. 7 placement by shrugging off the ranking and said his rap peers know who’s No. 1.
“Man, who the hell is before me?” Wayne questioned. “Was the list including all Hip Hop, like before and after as well? I can deal with that… I will tell you that I am a muthafuckin’ one. Everybody whose names you named, they also know I’m number one. Go ask ’em. They know what it is.”
Tyler’s comments come after Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale dropped in March. The eight-track offering, which essentially serves as the deluxe edition of his 2021 album, features appearances from A$AP Rocky, YG and the aforementioned Vince Staples, as well as guest production from Madlib and Kanye West.
The project debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 earlier in April and helped the original Call Me If You Get Lost achieve platinum status.
