Trippie Redd has a proposal for record labels that he believes could save the lives of artists.
Following PnB Rock’s senseless murder in Los Angeles on Monday (September 12), Trippie reflected on his time with the Philly rapper and voiced an idea for labels to supply their artists with full-time security guards to try to avoid more tragedies from happening.
“I had to reschedule my whole day yesterday I was at a true loss for words,” he wrote. “I keep losing my friends to gun violence I want all my friends to start having a guard or 2 it honestly should be on the label to get u protection… that’s one thing I used to tell xxx is let’s stop riding around in the i8 just me and u while ur paid security sleep at the house we in the club just us.
“Pnb was my real life brother he pulled up on me and @fijimacintosh when we weren’t even nobody yet and told us in his prime that we would blow up he pulled up to the hood in a sprinter wit all his guys to Fiji mom house just to meet us then put us on the line up for his show in Atlanta.”
Trippie recalled PnB’s unselfish nature and remembered how he collaborated with both Rock and the late XXXTENTACION on “Bad Vibes Forever.”
“He wasn’t a selfish person either he always praised me and my friends that aren’t famous working with n-ggas flying to us and we always bonded over the fact that we both got to make hits with xxx during his journey here I just want everyone to be safe and think about ur life and family before u make delicious I love you man until we meet again brother @pnbrock thank you for everything.”
PnB Rock was tragically killed during an armed robbery at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles in South Los Angeles. Rock (real name Rakim Allen) was rushed to a local hospital before being pronounced dead at around 1:59 p.m. local time at the age of 30.
The “Selfish” artist was with his daughter and girlfriend at the time of the shooting. Police haven’t made any arrests as of press time.
There’s been an outpouring of love in the Hip Hop community with Drake, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, 21 Savage, Meek Mill and more paying tribute to PnB Rock.
Drizzy — whose 2011 Take Care album inspired Rock to start rapping — posted a photo of them partying together on his Instagram Stories, while Nicki described her “Fendi” collaborator as a “pleasure to work with.”
Meanwhile, Ice-T has said he’s done elaborating on Los Angeles gang culture in the wake of the fatal shooting of PnB Rock.
While the rap world mourned the untimely loss of yet another young rapper, Ice-T reaffirmed that L.A. gang culture is “not a game.”
“I’m done explaining LA Gang culture,” he tweeted. “MFs will not listen. It’s not a game.. At all.”
Make sense to protect their assets. Add it to their advance, and make it recoupable.
You li e in fantasy land. Labels full of white eople capitalist would never do such for artist that can’t afford it. Private security adds up to hundred per hour and most these artist don’t make that, major or not. Plus when Xxx, Mac Miller, PnB, ect..etc… any rapper famous or not, drugs or gun violence. It doesn’t matter the rhyme or reason. All that matters is the stream numbers blow through the roof when an artist dies. The labels make more money off their death in two years than they do in 5 or 10 of them being alive with rare exceptions which are the artist the prop up the most like Post Malone and Drake.
That’s how it works. Like it or not. Stop pushing violent mucis and highlighting the perks of being a gangster and less kids would be shooting each other and their block up to make a music video or blow up. The whole culture is screwed and this is one facet.
Nahh … most these rappers getting killed wanna live that gang street life, this what comes with it. Not the labels responsibility. Idk anything about PnB but from what I read he was in a rough neighborhood and had his location posted.
Most of them come from that rough street shit or at least from poverty. It’s hard for people to get that you just can’t do what you used to do when you were anonymous. It’s dangerous enough when you’re broke, but around people who are straight up criminals, they don’t care and just see you as the next lick.
Back in the day we called it Live by the gun die by the gun.
They’re not about to do that. They have the life insurance policies to cover their ass,and why would they care? They’re going to make more money off you when you die.
What’s wrong with having security? Why all the comments trying to act like this dude aint deserve record label security?? That’s some hater shit. Lame asses
Because he could have easily avoided going to a bad area. Record labels should pour money into security so their artist can go eat in the hood? That’s stupid. If he ate in the hills, which he can afford, this wouldn’t have happened. Fly at your own risk. Stop trying to deflect responsibility.
You missing it, record labels can afford security for their artists no matter where they go. Artists give back to the hood all the time. To give back, they beeeee in the hood. Security is the issue, not you blaming him for eating lunch in a rough area.
How about (and this might be wild to some lol)
These garbage Rappers STOP promoting and glorifying violence and gangs and opps etc, it all comes back to them because of the dark energy they put out (unless you are protected by the feds that is…cough cough Lil Durk)
For what? You wanna hang out in gang infested areas wearing 200.000 bucks on your neck with just your girlfriend as backup: that’s your dumb business. Not that of your record label. I swear these mumble jumble pop rappers get more stupid by the SECOND.
Use your advance you dummy. Acting like the labels even gives you cars or studio time for free. Even your marketing and manufacturing comes out of your budget and you think they’ll give you $40k monthly security for free?
The problem isn’t the record label it’s the artist. Too many want to “keep it real” and “street”. It’s only rappers that need to deal with this thing. U don’t see rockers…jazz…pop having to deal with this crap. The hood don’t care as it’s often petty crap.. jealousy etc. At some point we have to do better as a race. I don’t know when this is going to happen. I hope and pray.
negotiate it in ur contract or stop wearing skirts otherwise ur security on u, u really gonna trust the label whos ra pin yas security haha big dummy
It is typically rappers with the most violent/disturbing content that seems to get gunned down.
Nba players and rappers continuously get treated like children even though they’re grown-ups making decisions for themselves it’s like they’re half retarded kids and get looked at that way… here’s a hint stop being a scumbag u won’t get hit
You make 6-7-8 figures, chose fame and riches over the basic life, the 2A is the best security, need more you can pay for it yourself for its the life you chose and you can afford to 1 rapper chain is 2-4 policeman salary, they do moonlighting to so hire one
Yeah, good luck with that. It’s the label running small hats that probably are getting these people whacked to increase record sales.
No baby boi boi if you rocking a 50k chain you can rock your own fvkin security budget. Another wrappa acting like a baby after shit goes down…really? Why didn’t he ask for this perk when he signed the damn contract? Rich people problems FOH
