Hip Hop vet Craig Mack passed away from heart failure at a hospital near his Walterboro, South Carolina home on Monday (March 12), according to the New York Daily News.
Producer Alvin Toney, who helped craft Mack’s 1994 debut album Project: Funk da World, reportedly saw the former Bad Boy Records affiliate for the final time last week. Toney explained he was working on a documentary about the Trenton, New Jersey-born rapper.
“Nobody got to understand his story,” Toney said. “I wanted the world to know the talent he had. It was something I wanted people to enjoy, but it was cut short because he was very religious and wanted to go to church.”
During the visit, Toney said Mack told him he’d been ill for some time and knew his days were numbered.
“He was prepared for whatever comes, to go home to the Lord,” Toney said. “He was prepared to do that. He wasn’t scared. He was ready.”
As news of Mack’s passing continues to spread online, more and more Hip Hop personalities have flocked to social media to pay their respects and offer their condolences.
EPMD’s Erick Sermon revealed Mack was in the process of wrapping up a new album before his passing.
Mack is survived by his wife and two children.

So is Puffy gonna acknowledge Craig Mack or what? Honestly he should’ve been one of the first to say something.
He too busy tryna be like Jay Z just cause he had Biggie
Why aren’t folks yelling down at Erick Sermon for not putting him down with Def Squad after he left Bad Boy?
For real. I’ve always wondered why E Double didn’t step in to assist Mack after Bad Boy. Would’ve resulted in a much better second album. Should’ve built that album around “Jockin My Style” which was made by Ty Fyffe, and had beats from Erick, Rockwilder and Reggie on there.
Whoa. Never thought about that. That would’ve been dope.
You have to realize that Mack was possibly still under contract with Bad Boy/Arista until he signed with Street Life, remember that Mack was on a few R&B joints around 95 and his second album came out in 1997, Sermon said on his Instagram that had EPMD not split up, Mack would have been in The Hit Squad.
should have been Rick Ross instead
