Trey Songz is no longer on the hook for a default judgment of $11 million after failing to respond to a battery lawsuit filed in Las Vegas – but he’s not out of the woods yet.

According to 8 News Now, Trey’s argument that he was never properly served has been honored and Clark County District Court Judge Jacob Reynolds granted his legal team 30 days from January 17 to reply to the original lawsuit.

Following the ruling, the attorney for the Vegas police officer suing Trey said in a statement: “While we had hoped that the judgment would stand, we respect the court’s decision and look forward to conducting discovery regarding Mr. Songz and the security personnel who attacked my client. We plan to zealously move this case forward and will move to bring in all of the security entourage as Defendants once Mr. Songz produces their names and addresses.”

Tyrelle Dunn sued Trey Songz back in 2023, alleging that in November 2021, his wife was “escorted” to Songz’s hotel room at The Cosmopolitan, where she was “assaulted, tried to leave and had her phone taken away.”

Dunn said he heard his wife’s cries for help, and was then attacked. He said the resulting injuries were severe enough that he missed a month of work.

Songz never responded to Dunn’s suit, and a default judgment was entered against him on October 10 for $11,277,961.37.

In the filing earlier this month to contest the ruling, Trey’s legal team said: “Good cause exists to set aside the default judgment because [Tyrelle] did not properly effectuate service of process of the summons and complaint on [Trey] pursuant to Nevada or California law,” the suit reads. “[Trey] did not know about this lawsuit until November 27, 2024, when he received Instagram messages from fans extending their support after news broke about Dunn’s default judgment.

“[Trey] promptly engaged civil defense counsel over the Thanksgiving holiday and filed this Motion to set aside the default judgment the next week. [Trey] deserves to have his day in court to defend himself, rather than being subjected to a massive default judgment which was improperly obtained in an underlying case that [Trey] knew nothing about until a week prior to filing this Motion. The enforcement of this default judgment will be devastating to [Trey] and will ruin his life.”

The filing also notes that a full investigation was conducted by Las Vegas PD and they found no wrongdoing on Trey’s behalf, clearing him of any charges.

In addition, Trey’s legal team said that Dunn served the guards at the singer’s gated community but not the singer himself, therefore rendering it invalid.
