Tory Lanez feels he’s responsible for the current popularity of streaming that has birthed stars out of previous unknowns and added a second act to established celebrities.

Taking to his Instagram Story from prison on Thursday (January 16), Tory reposted a clip of his popular Quarantine Radio stream from the pandemic in 2020.

“I crawled so the streaming community could walk [happy tears emojis] #QuarantineRadio,” he wrote.

Tory Lanez launched Quarantine Radio in March of 2020 in an effort to curb pandemic-induced boredom. Drake tuned in for one episode and allegedly helped Lanez break an Instagram Live record with over 237,000 viewers. The show even had a fan in Instagram’s CEO, who helped Tory get the show back online after it was suspended.

The stream continued to grow and that May, he partnered with Amazon Music and The Dream Center to launch the Tory Lanez Dream City Fund, a direct response to the wildly popular Quarantine Radio.

According to CNN, the Tory Lanez Dream City Fund was established to provide meals and diapers to people impacted by COVID-19.

“It’s very important for any artist to give back because at some point you were regular too,” Lanez said while launching the campaign. “At some point, you were a regular person just like everyone else. I always tell artists people feel exactly how you (felt) when you were in that place.”

“It took me to a place where I didn’t understand it and didn’t understand how to cope with it,” he said. “It taught me at a young age how important a mother is and how important the guidance of a mother is.”

Lanez made the announcement on his Instagram account as well, promising to donate 50,000 diapers to get the fund started.

Things took a turn months later with his now-infamous incident with Megan Thee Stallion, and the rapper is now serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting her in the feet.

And just last week, Megan was granted a a five-year restraining order against Tory after successfully arguing that he has continued to harass her, even from behind bars.

The order prohibits him from harassing, intimidating or threatening the Houston rapper in any way until at least January 9, 2030.

He must also stay at least 100 yards away from her.

Tory’s lawyer, Michael Hayden, hit back at the ruling, describing it as an unfair restraint on the rapper’s free speech. He also argued that it was unwarranted given Tory, who was convicted of the shooting in late 2022, is currently in prison.
