Too Short Reflects On First Full NYC Concerts And Career Longevity

Among the many phrases popularized by Too Short (including his signature, elongated “Bitch!”), is “Don’t Stop Rappin’.” In addition to it being the title of his debut album, the 45-year-old Oakland emcee is apparently using that motto as a career guide of sorts.

“I don’t dye my gray hairs,” Too Short told Jon Caramanica in a recent New York Times profile. “I don’t lie about my age. You can rap ’til you die.”

That belief may be fueling Short Dog’s upcoming, No Trespassing album. The LP, which is scheduled for a February 28 release, will be Too Short’s nineteenth. In what was most likely part of a brief promotional tour, Too Short performed a few shows at New York’s hipster haven, The Knitting Factory. At some point it dawned on Too Short that during a career that has lasted nearly three decades, he’d never performed a full concert in The Empire State.

“I never even knew I had a chance of getting on a stage in New York,” Too Short explained.

That chance will increase, as Short is reportedly contemplating a return to New York with a full, live band in tow for his next appearance. The full profile can be read in the New York Times’ Music section.

      1. Sugarhill Gang still touring, Big Daddy Kane still getting shows, EPMD still touring, there’s plenty of them still out there you just don’t hear about them.

    1. To me, Blow the Whistle was his last good song. He seems a little old for this shit now, but he has his fans who will no doubt support anything he puts out.

      1. Damn shawty, you stay on here ALL THE TIME throwing shots at older people. It’s like your parents took your video game away and made you do your homework so you get on here mad at everybody who’s older than you.

    2. Shut the fuck up you little troll. Your ass is on here 24/7 either loving or flipping on everything. I was referring to Short’s age, not his talent level. Now go back to your room. You know the one with the bars, and listen to Kool G. Rap’s first album. Old ass, dusty ass motherfucker lol
