Tiny Doo No Longer Facing Criminal Charges Over His Music

Brandon Duncan, known also by his stage name Tiny Doo, is no longer looking at conspiracy charges stemming from his music. NBC San Diego reports that earlier this week, a San Diego Superior Court judge dismissed the conspiracy charges against Duncan and another man.

The charges, which stemmed from a series of shootings that took place in San Diego between May 2013 and February 2014, were reportedly dropped due to lack of evidence.

The rapper, who plead not guilty, spoke exclusively to NBC San Diego about his music quite literally being put on trial.

“If you want to hear my music, it’s not promoting anything,” Duncan said. “I’m not telling anybody to commit no crime, I’m not telling anybody to do anything. It’s just artistry. I’m painting a picture of an urban community.”

Prosecutors in the case attempted to link Duncan to the shootings with help from a 15-year-old, conspiracy law, which states that those who are active gang members can be charged for crimes committed by other gang members, regardless of their actual involvement in the crime.

The law also states that prosecutors are required to prove that the person or persons charged had to have benefited from the gang crime.

Prosecutors in Duncan’s case attempted to accuse him of benefiting from added street cred as a result of the shootings.
