Tierra Whack has fearlessly bared her soul to the world with the release of a captivating new music video accompanying her latest track, “27 Club.”

In the video, the Philadelphia-born artist explores the haunting thoughts that occasionally consume her. In a poignant tribute, she honors the legacies of musicians who departed too soon: Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, and Amy Winehouse, all of whom died at the age of 27.

I can show you how it feels/ When you lose what you love/ When the world seems like its against you/ When your friends and family forget you/ It ain’t really hard to convince you/ Lookin’ for somethin’ to commit to,” she sings on the first verse.

Continuing into the chorus, Tierra—donning a clown-esque ensemble—shares personal thoughts of suicide while rotating between various face masks featuring a rollercoaster of emotions.

Suicide/ The coach got me doin’ suicide too/ Suicide/ Yeah, the coach got me doin’ suicide too/ Like a glass full but I’m empty/ Said, ‘I’m broken, can you fix me?’/ Yeah, the coach got me doin’ suicide too/ If I’m dreamin,’ you should pinch me/ Got a gun to the head, don’t tempt me/ Yeah, the coach got me doin’ suicide too.

The single follows the announcement of  Tierra’s long-awaited debut album, World Wide Whack.

Taking to Instagram late last month, the 28-year-old provided an update about the highly anticipated body of work while highlighting the project’s cover art. She wrote, “WORLD WIDE WHACK MY DEBUT ALBUM OUT ON 3/15 Brought to life by Alex Da Corte.”

The fittingly wacky cover art shows Tierra wearing a jester-like outfit while sitting on a crescent stage prop in front of a giant “Joker” playing card.

Speaking of her whimsical approach, in quotes from an old interview she revealed that JAY-Z once called her “the Joker of Hip Hop.”

“So I’ve seen the most recent Joker, the movie, about five times, it’s like one of my favorite movies,” she told Apple Music in 2021 following the release of her Rap? EP.

“I watched it once just by myself when it first came out and then I had a conversation with JAY-Z and he was like, ‘Yo, you’re the Joker of the game.’ And I’m like, ‘What does that mean?’

“And he’s like, ‘You come off happy but there’s a dark side.’ And honestly it stuck with me. And I’m just like, ‘You know what? That’s exactly who I am. I’m the Joker. I’m the wild card.’”
