Following the release of last year’s critically acclaimed How I Got Over, The Roots are already thinking about its next LP. Speaking with Billboard.com, drummer ?uestlove explains that the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania collective is plotting a “concept album” that will lean on orchestral arrangements.
“This is going to be our first full-fledged narrative concept album,” he said. “It’s going to be a challenge to figure out how to get from point A to B — or in this case, point B to point A — and have it seem natural.”
The band hopes that the album, which has a “one-word title that’s spelled incorrectly,” will come out by November, but guess that the LP will drop in January or February 2012. According to ?uestlove, the sound of the album has a hard edge. “It’s going to be heavy on sort of orchestral chamber music with harder beats in it,” he explained.
Roots MC Black Thought said that it will flow in a similar vein of How I Got Over, with a variation. “[It will be] kind of flipped. Instead of from dark to light, it’s an album that goes from light to dark,” he said of the album, which has a “one-word title that’s spelled incorrectly.”

greatest rap group ever along with outkast
Yeah. Outkast+Dungeon Family production and The Roots won on every release. Glad the Roots are going to drop another. I bought their cds without even needing to hear a single first.
if its Orchestral they should really collaborate with two steps from hell and E.S. Posthumus (whats left of them/him)
I only really caught on to The Roots in their more recent phase, so don’t really know what to expect.
Something like Concerto of the Desperado, maybe?
Either way i’m looking forward to it.
Good call
Excellent. I really liked their “harder” songs on “Rising Down.” Can’t wait to hear what they do with an orchestral style.
YES! I am so happy and ready for this next one!
This will either be amazing, or a complete fail………
In other words when its really good your gonna say you werent completely counting it out.

WORD!! That would be a sick ass combo right there. Now imagine that same collab w/Nas & AZ on the remix, 4 blazing verses no hook??? That would be damn near orgasmic. My ears are ringing i can almost hear that joint now (lol)…
The Roots has always dropped classics up til How I Got Over which was slept on hard Black thought is the most slept on mc of all time he never disappoints ever in his life
They are one of the greatest Rap groups ever to !!!!
I really hope this album has a one-word title that’s spelled incorrectly.
I don’t get it…
legends
The Roots are the best and ONLY hip hop BAND out there today and they definitely rep that title to the fullest. They raised the bar ever since Stetsasonic passed that baton. Their “Pherenology” album was very complicated but gave me a new respect for The Roots in terms of diversity so I know whenever they come with this new concept album it’ll be dope regardless. Black Thought??? Ahh forget about it, he’s easily one of the dopest mc’s in hip hop.
the most amazing thing to me about the Roots is that on every single album they bring a brand new sound…. and it always works. They have to be the most consistent act in hip hop.
anything from the roots is interesting, i just hope they remember to make it dope, like a pound or a ki
