The Roots have announced that they will be taking Digable Planets and Arrested Development on a summer tour called Hip Hop Is The Love of My Life.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday (April 2), The Roots announced a few of their already-booked dates, and promised that there would be more to follow.
“This is for the ones that really fell in LOVE with this,” they wrote in the caption. “From us to yall join us and our family @arresteddevelopment__ & @planetsdigable on the HIP-HOP IS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE TOUR.”
They continued: “And follow our broadcast channel to stay up to date on the other spots we have coming and exclusive announcements from @blackthought and @questlove.”
Last month, Questlove shared a story about the time that Prince kicked De La Soul out of their own studio session.
The Roots drummer was a guest on De La’s new Apple Music 1 show Art Official Intelligence Radio with De La Soul where they discussed the recording of the group’s 2000 album Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump.
While they were recording the song “View,” Quest revealed that Prince dropped by the studio.
“I came in to ‘View’ when we were trying to fix it. You guys had a sample issue with ‘Ode to Billy Joe‘ — the drum break that is on ‘View,’” he explained.
“We get to the studio and then you and I were greeted by a bunch of security, Secret Service-looking men, and then Clive Davis and Prince walk in. And then the management of Electric Lady lets us know.”
He added: “Prince wanted to play for Clive Davis so we got kicked out of our own session so that Prince could play Clive Davis [his 2001 album] Rave In2 the Joy Fantastic.
“But when I was drumming, that line, ‘I may be old school, but I’m not an old fool’ — that’s like my all time favorite line. It’s always the filler that I like.”

For the white dudes who got offended by my earlier comments about white executives jumping in the decision maker seat and destroying hip hop, this is what I’m talking about. Thirty years ago Diggable Planets, Arrested Development, and The Roots were mainstream alongside Pac, Biggie, and Nas, and it was cool as shit. When these bloodsuckers saw hip hop as a cash cow, all of that shit ceased. It became about we’re going to go find a pop star who raps and make him or her a hip hop star and exclusively promote some of the most degenerate shit along the way while we’re at it.
I`m white and not at all offended.
I know about the meeting they had after the major labels started investing in prisons.
What?! No show in Wisconsin? That’s where Arrested Development’s lead vocalist got his “humble” start…hmmm…
