The LOX are widely considered one of the best rap groups of all time, but it’s their musical taste — not their mic skills — that is put under the microscope in the latest episode of UPROXX’s Sound Check.
Hosted by Jeremy Hecht, the quickfire round show challenges guests to choose between two songs from some of their favorite artists, shedding light on their musical preferences and influences while uncovering never-before-heard stories from their personal lives and careers.

During their turn on the hot seat, Jadakiss, Styles P and Sheek Louch must make tough decisions involving classic storytelling rap songs (Nas’ “Rewind” vs. Biggie’s “I Got a Story to Tell”), iconic NYC rap groups (Mobb Deep’s “Shook Ones Pt. II” vs. Wu-Tang Clan’s “C.R.E.A.M.”) and Michael Jackson’s deep catalog of hits (“Rock With You” vs “Butterflies”).
The Yonkers trio also turn their attention to two of Hip Hop’s current “Big 3,” choosing between Kendrick Lamar‘s “Alright” and J. Cole‘s “No Role Modelz.” Their pick may surprise some viewers, and even more surprising is the fact that all three were in agreement.

Delving deeper into Hip Hop’s new generation, Jada, Ghost and Sheek lend their ear to breakout hits from Doechii and LiAngelo “GELO” Ball, revealing themselves to be fans of TDE’s rising star.
“Doechii is extra dope and creative,” Sheek says after hearing “Denial is a River,” while Styles praises her lyrical ability: “She’s barring it down like somebody who was around in the ’90s and 2000s.”
Later, the former Ruff Ryders representatives reflect on working with DMX while weighing up their late comrade’s emotional anthem “Slippin'” and JAY-Z‘s equally heartfelt “Song Cry.”
“May the Dog rest in peace. He put us in the game. How could we take anybody else?” Kiss says after siding with “Slippin.'” “He came and got us.”

Asked what made X so special, Jada replies: “He was already a star in our eyes before anybody in this room even knew he existed. He was already him, as they say today.”
