TMZ stopped Mr. L.A. Confidential outside of The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Friday night (June 21) and asked him about the recent Congressional hearing on reparations.

The House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties held the hearing at Capitol Hill on June 19 to discuss the “legacy of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, its continuing impact on the community and the path to restorative justice.”
A main topic of conversation was H.R. 40, legislation that would “establish a commission to study the consequences and impacts of slavery and make recommendations for reparations proposals.”
New Jersey Democratic Sen. Cory Booker, writer Ta-Nehisi Coates and actor Danny Glover all testified before the House panel.

Well I’m black and I agree with the whole history being discussed as it’s impact is relevant today. But I’m against financial reparations. If it happens then what? Slavery never happened? Something I’ve always thought about when it comes to the topic of American descendants of slaves wanting ‘reparations’, is that I’ve never heard about black descendants of slaves in Brazil, other countries in Latin America, or the Carribean complain about getting reparations from the countries they now live in or from the governments of Spain, Portugal, England, or whatever other European nation that brought their ancestors to the new world hundreds of years ago. No one alive today, anywhere on Earth, had anything to do with the Trans-Atlantic slave trade or owning slaves hundreds of years ago so why would anyone alive today ever have to pay any kind of reparations to someone who didn’t suffer through that part of history themselves?
