Beat Generation has been responsible for the critically acclaimed releases from Pete Rock (PeteStrumentals), Jay Dee (Welcome To Detriot), Will.I.Am. (Lost Change) and Marley Marl (Re-Entry). There have talks that the likes of Madlib, Peanutbutter Wolf, Jazzy Jeff and ?uestlove would also be doing BBE projects. That has materialized for the latter two.
?uestlove, member of The Roots, is almost ready to release his album. “Babies Making Babies” is making noise for it’s liner notes oddly enough. The notes contain a rating system called “I wonder if Questo still gives a fuck about me?” The goal is to reach 500 points based on the points that ?uest allocates to you. For instance, you get 100 points for buying the album or “If I came out of your birth canal, give yourself 100,000 points.” Thanks to hiphopsite for the above.
Philadelphia’s Jazzy Jeff is also getting set to release his BBE album. “The Magnificant: A Beat Generation” will hit the shelves on August 12th. There are appearances made other Phili artists, The Roots, Jill Scott and Boyz II Men to be exact. DJ Jazzy Jeff is of course that of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince fame, although he is probably best known as the dim-witted “Jazz” from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air TV show.
