Teyana Taylor secretly filed for divorce from husband Iman Shumpert and claims the former NBA star was “mentally abusive” towards her, it has been revealed.

The singer and basketball player got married in 2016, but according to TMZ, Taylor filed for divorce in January, long before their recently-announced split.

Legal documents detail the end of the marriage and also reveal that Taylor initially filed for divorce in 2022, but later withdrew the petition.

As well as the divorce, Taylor is also seeking primary physical custody of their two children, as well as joint legal custody and child support.

In the filing, the former G.O.O.D. Music singer accuses Shumpert of “treating her cruelly and displaying extreme narcissistic behavior throughout the majority of their marriage.”

She also accuses the former New York Knicks player of “being extremely emotionally and mentally abusive towards her,” adding that he could be prone to exhibiting “cruel behaviour and selfishness.”

Her filing also claims Shumpert cheated on her multiple times during their relationship, contrary to her previous claim that “infidelity ain’t one of the reasons for our departure.”

Taylor’s petition for divorce also includes details such as Shumpert crashing her Rolls-Royce and fleeing the scene to avoid arrest, displaying jealous behaviour whenever she was in the spotlight and asking her not to work.

The Harlem native says she chose to “intentionally dim her light for her husband to try to have a harmonious and peaceful marriage.”

The couple initially met more than a decade ago in 2011 before marrying five years later.

Teyana Taylor announced the couple’s split on Instagram in September, writing: “We are still the best of friends, great business partners and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our 2 beautiful children. Most importantly we are FAMILY & in the 10yrs together, 7yrs married we ain’t ever played with or about THAT.”

Iman Shumpert has yet to comment on the divorce filing or the allegations within.

Since retiring from basketball in 2021, Shumpert has pursued an entertainment career of his own, starring in and winning the 30th season of Dancing with the Stars.

He has also dabbled in rap music, releasing his own album last year titled This Car Ain’t Stolen under his own record label A Sinners Peace Records.
