T-Pain‘s new partnership with Lipton will take a lot of people back to the late ’90s — especially those with an affinity for pop-rock classics.
On Wednesday (June 14), the Tallahassee native appeared in a promotional campaign for iced tea-flavored popsicles. This summer-themed product by Lipton is called “Pops of Sunshine” and its first ad of the season features a familiar tune with a fresh touch.

In addition to being the face of the operation, the autotune pioneer can also be heard singing a cover of Canadian group Len’s 1999 hit “Steal My Sunshine.” Whereas the original release is a pop-rock song, T-Pain reworks it into a digitized R&B rendition.
“We’re setting the vibe for the summer, Lipton Iced Tea and T-Pain are partnering to introduce the first-ever ‘Pops of Sunshine,’ frozen iced-tea flavored pops to melt away the stress of hectic summer schedules,” Lipton wrote on Instagram, sharing a brief clip of T-Pain singing the song.

This will most likely not be the last time fans hear from the singer regarding iced tea popsicles as the post also said: “Stay tuned for more to come from Lipton Iced Tea and T-Pain throughout the summer.”

The Lipton commercial is by no means T-Pain’s first time reimagining a song that isn’t his. In March, the multi-talented vocalist released an eight-track album made up solely of covers titled On Top of the Covers.
Among the many artists the Floridian covers on the project are Sam Cooke, Sam Smith, Journey, Chris Stapleton and Black Sabbath. In addition, he gets his artist NandoSTL to duet with him on the Frank Sinatra song, “That’s Life.”

“This covers album has been years in the making. I started recording this right after I won TheMasked Singer,” he said during an interview with Rolling Stone. “It got put on hold for a bit but now that I’m independent, I’m able to do whatever I want to do through Nappy Boy Entertainment and this is something I’ve felt strongly about for a long time.”
The album features T-Pain breaking away from his signature autotune sound. In an Instagram post leading up to its release, he referred to it as “A T-Pain cover album to end all cover albums.”
When he’s not making covers, T-Pain can sometimes be out saving lives. In late 2021, the singer shared an unfathomable story about the making of “Bartender” and how the session ended with him saving the life of a man in distress.
Appearing on Steve-O’s Wild Ride! podcast, the “Buy U A Drank” singer told the story about how he cheered up a 70-something-year-old man who was getting ready to take his own life after learning his wife died hours earlier while at a Jamaican resort.
