T-Pain Says He “Changed Music Completely”

During a recent interview, T-Pain discussed his impact on music when asked about how he views artists’ use of Auto-Tune.

“I changed music completely, so it is good to see that, but it’s terrible to see how horrible everybody sounds with it,” Pain said in an interview with xxlmag.com. “I studied my craft, and I make sure I know how it works. I know where it comes from. I knew how Auto-Tune got invented. I studied the technology of it. Everything. Then I used it. But everybody else is slapping it on their voice and saying they got a smash.”

T-Pain also spoke about how his style has progressed over the years.

“I went off for a little while trying to reinvent myself and try[ing] to do different music and stuff,” Pain said. “Everybody was saying that you need to switch it up…That was the [2011] Revolver album, and it didn’t do as good as I wanted it to. People like familiarity. People like to know what is happening. It was only right that I go back to what made me the T-Pain I am today.”

During the interview, T-Pain also spoke about his upcoming 2014 release.

“This is really going to be what’s on my mind and what’s me,” he says. “I’m doing this album like [how] Quentin Tarantino makes movies. Everybody always asks Quentin Tarantino, ‘Who you make movies for?’ He don’t make movies for anybody.”

In 2011, Pain spoke about the challenges he faced while crafting Revolver

“I actually did have some difficulty with it, but you know, it was more of me wanting to get out what I wanted to get out [and] make the songs how I wanted them to sound, how I heard them in my head,” Pain said. “Because every other time I did it on any other album, it was like, ‘Ah, well this sounds close enough. So let’s put it out…’ Then boom, every time I heard it, it bothered me, so this time I actually sat down and got it out the way I heard it in my head.”

    1. Ruined is more like it. We went from Boot Camp Click, Onyx and Wu Tang to Drake, Wayne, Pitball and Flo rida… Thanks a lot asshole

    2. Oh and people were using autotune (voice correcting software) way before him so I don’t wanna hear HE did it. esp. from him. Come on Son!

      1. Roger Troutman – California knows how to party.. but never mind Tpain invented autotune according to everybody but you.

Im telling you dude cant reason with these morons the more you stick around the more you want to troll

      2. ja rule army obviously does not know the difference between autotune and a vocoder. Those are two different things. It is ironic that he will call others morons yet he thinks those two technologies are the same lmao.

    3. he kinda changed music but the rest of the change is just with wack ass rappers.

All T-pain did was make rappers transition to pop. The first to do this in my opinion is Diddy and then Flo-Rida went ahead and transition to pop completely.

Aiight Niggaz, some history of Auto-tune.

Originally made by a Exxon engineer, Andy Hildebrand, who invented this for seismic data exploration. His true intent for it was to use the sounds waves to map out the earth’s surface.

Auto-tune was made by Antares Audio Technology in 1998. It is a piece of software. The true purpose of this auto-tune software was to correct the artist vocals when they are off-key from the right notes or artist who cannot sing at all like Future.

The first song to come out to use auto tune was “Can You Believe” by Cher. 7-8 years later T-Pain debuts with it.

    6. Where’s Wayne, Birdman etc now? Kanye, Flo Rida, Chris Brown? All these guys that collaborated with him; especially Wayne and Birdman.

These guys are using Future now, no loyalty. T Pain should’ve prepared for these snakes.

    7. “The first song to come out to use auto tune was “Can You Believe”

It was actually just called Believe, but you’re right. Problem is Cher wasn’t hip hop, so when T Pain came out alot of people who probably didn’t know who Cher was heard TP using it and assumed he created it.
