SZA & Lizzo Almost Started A Rock Band With Another ‘Incredible’ Artist

SZA and Lizzo nearly started a side quest of a rock band with a third artist, but it never fully got off the ground.

During a Twitch stream on Valentine’s Day (February 14), Lizzo discussed her longtime friendship with the New Jersey songstress and revealed that they considered forming a group while they were recording their collab “F2F” from SZA’s 2022 SOS album.

“We just always been friends, and it’s a sacred space for me in this industry,” Lizzo explained. “We [had] this little period of time where we were just linking up in the studio. One particular night, mind you, we was gonna start a rock band, called Pussy Lasers. Oh my gosh, she not gonna get mad if I say this.

“We were going to start a rock band called Pussy Lasers with an incredible other artist who I don’t know if she even wants to be mentioned, so I’m not going to mention her.”

Initially “F2F” was going to be for the group, but it ended up living on SZA’s record-breaking LP.

“I was like, this shit is hard, though,” she added. “I was like, ‘Man, pull that Pussy Lasers shit up!’ And let me tell you something – I sat and watched this girl freestyle the whole fucking song. She ate that shit! At the end of it, I was like, ‘That’s the song.’”

The pair’s friendship goes beyond just music.

Back in 2023, SZA jumped to Lizzo’s defense online after she grew tired of online hate directed at the Cuz I Love You singer.

In a series of tweets, SZA spoke out against social media trolls in defense of her friend – and even doubled down when a fan questioned her.

“I be wondering where all the virtue signaling ,well spoken shit talking ,internet warriors are when someone genuine needs defending,” SZA began. “Where the fuck do y’all be at for lizzo? Do y’all actually know how to support others or only tear them down.”

When someone responded to disagree and say that Lizzo does get support, SZA said: “NOT EFUCKINGNUFF. For as much free love, encouragement and positivity she embodies n shares on every app daily ? The ratios’s don’t add up.”

She added: “I also dgaf who don’t agree. It’s been on my mind for a minute.. makes me upset. jus want everyone to practice kindness and shutting tf up more often cause GADDAMN ITS UGLY OUTSIDE ALREADY. Why add ?”
