SWV Preps Comeback Album, Upcoming Reality Show

SWV, aka Sisters with Voices, released its last album A Special Christmas in 1997, but the trio promises something a bit more contemporary for its reunion album. Speaking with Billboard.com, Cheryl “Coko” Gamble, Tamara “Taj” Johnson-George and Leanne “Lelee” Lyons promise something that keeps up with the times.

“Same style just new millennium. Kick it up a notch, take it to the next level, but we’re still going to be ourselves,” says Coko of the group’s latest, releasing on Mass Appeal Entertainment. “[Mass Appeal] didn’t say no, they didn’t close the door in our face. No, they believed in us, so that’s always a plus.”

With production from Bryan Michael Cox and Lamb, the LP weeds out halfhearted music. “Whoever’s going to give us some hits, not any mediocre stuff,” she continues. “We’re looking for some heat.”

In addition to the album, the girls filmed a reality show that they’re currently shopping to networks. The show will explore the reasons that they went their separate ways more than a decade ago. “We’re going to be honest about it. Every day is not perfect,” says Taj, hoping the show will guide young singers. “They have to understand it’s not an easy road. It’s hard as hell out here and it doesn’t get easy at all. The more successful you become, the more work you have to put in. We want them to realize that you just don’t put on a cute little bra top and sing a note and dance and everything is gold.”

    1. Dam I remember these hoes… Had that cut with ODB, shit was bumpin back in the day… they fell off the map like victims of a puff rape…

      1. They chose to fall off. Coko went toward gospel music. But other than En vouge, they were the most sucessful girl group of that era

      2. @ Anonymous they was hot but actually the hottest of the era in terms of hits and sales and appeal was tlc

      3. Dee you kinda right, but TLC was a crossover group. When you sell 10 million albums, we ain’t talking the hood any more. TLC didn’t go to the same school as SWV
        TOTAL
        KUT KLOSE
        CHANGING FACES and En Vogue

    2. SWV were cool to me back in the day. I remember sweatin’ all them R&B shorties; Monica, Tatyana Ali, En Vogue, Debera Cox and Chilli from TLC. Alicia Keys’ the only cute girl around these days.

    3. Hopefully their comeback will work it is nice to see the old school bounce back!! Hopefully they will release some fire.

    4. SWV was one of those female R&B groups that I wasn’t shy about bumpin in the ride even till this day (lol). Their beats were always dope regardless if it was a slow, mid, or up-tempo joint. Their 1st album (New Begining) had a track on it called “When This Feeling” that was the 1st time ever The Neptunes came on the scene. I’m sure they’ll still be dope and most of all still keep it classy.
