Swizz Beatz is leaving hope alive for a possible Verzuz battle between Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj.

The Verzuz co-founder appeared on The Breakfast Club for an interview on Wednesday morning (April 26), where co-host DJ Envy asked if the idea of a battle between the two former enemies was still on the table – and while he didn’t confirm, he also didn’t deny.

“I can’t say, I can’t say,” Swizz said.

When Envy clarified, “So there’s still a possibility?” Swizz kept the same energy. “Yeah, I can’t say. I can’t say. But just know if you’re going to wait this long for Verzuz – if we gone have you wait this long – it’s definitely going to be worth it.”

The possibility of a Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim Verzuz battle first popped up in 2021 when Kim herself told DJ Envy on a red carpet that she was down for the pairing.

When asked who she’d want to do a Verzuz with, she instantly replied, “Nicki.” The lack of hesitation stunned Envy, so he asked again, only to get the same answer. “I’d love to.”

Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim’s feud dates back to the late 2000s, just as Nicki made her ascent in Hip Hop with mixtapes and freestyles.

Although fans added on to the beef by taking their respective sides of loyalty, the two rappers sparring with diss tracks and subliminal shots toward one another over the years. Even their peers have gotten involved in the beef – from Mary J. Blige calling Kim a “trailblazer” to Missy Elliott calling for peace between the two.

While the beef has been dormant for some time now, it recently came back up last year when social media (including 50 Cent) thought that Kim was dissing Nicki’s son in her verse on the remix of Megan Thee Stallion‘s “Plan B.”

After hearing the remix, 50 accused Kim of targeting Nicki’s child with her lyrics in the opening line.

N-gga, you’s a bitch, your father’s a bitch, your brother’s a bitch / Keep acting like this and your son gon’ be a bitch,” she raps on the song.

Fif made the accusation in an Instagram post while tagging Nicki Minaj, which was later taken down.

“QGTM @nickiminaj you better light her ass up i’m watching,” he wrote. “she said something about the baby. her baby eye fucked up. LOL.”

Kim then shot down the claims on her Instagram Stories, before saying the lyrics were actually about 50 Cent.

“I never said a word about anyone’s child… please feel free to listen to the song where we were clearly talking about an EX,” she said. “To try and twist my words to have an excuse to take digs at my child is disgusting. I’m one of the most disrespected legends in the game but what you will not do is come for MY CHILD.”

She added: “It’s so crazy how a song about bitch ass n-ggas could touch a bitch ass n-ggas soul so deeply that he results to attacking a child. Oh yeah it’s official to say… I’M THAT BITCH!!!! Okayyyyy 50 you got me! The song was about YOU!!!!”
