Summer Walker has responded to years of criticism regarding her lack of energy on stage in the only way she knows how — with humor.

When she hit the scene in 2018, with “Girls Need Love,” from her debut album, Last Day Of Summer, the singer’s angelic voice and knack for tapping into nostalgia, helped make her the R&B girl that everyone can relate to.

When it comes to Walker’s live performances, however, they haven’t always been hailed well. Her assumed lack of enthusiasm on stage has long been debated amongst fans. In the past, Summer has noted that her perceived “lack of energy” was actually her trying to mask her social anxiety.

In a recent Instagram video, Summer Walker felt the need to clarify her stance, noting that it simply wouldn’t make sense to put together a performance around the type of music she makes, which is characterized by slow, melodic beats.

“You know what doesn’t add up to me?” she began. “When people say ‘put that same energy in your show sis. I have been hearing that shit for years and I never responded because I thought it was so dumb, but tell me how this adds up to you.”

The singer then began to hilariously twerk along to her popular track “Session 32,” while trying to prove the point that high energy dancing doesn’t marry her music very well.

In related news, the singer has continued to fan the flames regarding rumors she’s dating BMF star Lil Meech.

Last week, Meech’s Instagram Story was filled with pics of him and Summer, who took full advantage of IG’s funny filters while they were out and about. In another picture, Summer Walker can be seen wearing Lil Meech’s massive BMF chain while striking a silly pose.

Dating rumors started to swirl between the two stars last month when Meech appeared at an event with a mystery woman who was wearing a pink ski mask, with internet detectives linking her identity to Walker.

Meanwhile, in keeping with women of R&B, former record executive-turned-podcaster Ray Daniels has claimed R&B has been “killed” by the feminist movement.

“The stars are all women,” he said on his The Gauds Show podcast. “There are no male R&B stars. But here’s why: there’s nothing a male R&B singer can say today, that’s been said in the past, that’s not considered toxic masculinity.”
