TMZ reports that Sugarhill Gang rapper Big Bank Hank, real name Henry Jackson, has passed away at the age of 57.
According to TMZ, Jackson was suffering from cancer when he passed away early Tuesday (November 11) morning.
“So sad to hear of our brother’s passing. Rest in peace Big Bank,” Sugarhill Gang members Wonder Mike and Master Gee said while speaking with TMZ.
As a member of the Sugarhill Gang, Jackson was a part of one of the most iconic groups in Hip Hop. The Sugarhill Gang quickly shot to fame with the release of their 1979 record, “Rapper’s Delight.”
On the second verse of “Rapper’s Delight,” Jackson famously raps: “Everybody go: Hotel, motel, Holiday Inn / You see, if your girl starts acting up, then you take her friend.”
A number of artists in the Hip Hop community, including Juicy J and Crooked I, expressed their condolences via Twitter.
HipHopDX sends its condolences to the family and friends of Big Bank Hank.

Jay Z has no respect for the legends. He does nothing for the cultureonly things to benefit himself. Drake is elevating the game.
Stfu dental cuntlips faggot, have some respect.
Rip BBH. My old man has bumped rappers delight his whole life.
dentalbitch returns with his lies.
@Anon1
I have nothing but the utmost respect for BBH and all legends. My point is that Jay Z doesn’t respect the legends while Wayne, Drake and Birdman do.
BTW, it must be nice being able to bond over rap with your parents. My parents immigrated to France from Africa, so they never grew up with rap and when they moved to the US, they never really liked it because they didn’t think it portrayed black people positively.
You’re wrong, dentalbitch. Jay Z does respect the legends while Wayne, Drake, and Birdman doesn’t. Also, your last paragraph is all a lie.
This is very unfortunate. May he rest in peace. I wonder if Caz is going to pay his respects?!?!
RIP Hank. Your contributions to hip-hop makes you immortal.
Respect to Big Bank Hank for his contributions and promoting the hip-hop flag especially in those early years of recordings. Yes, some people will never forgive him for the lyrics-swiping, but at this point, what’s done is done. Can’t go back.
R.I.P.
He paved the way for unemployment in the hood.

We would not be here discussing hip hop today if it weren’t for Sugar Hill, Grandmaster Flash, Kurtis Blow, Whodini and Afrika Bambaataa.
