“Songs For Japan” Album Raises $5 Million

Songs For Japan, a compilation album, has sold over 500,000 copies, generating approximately $5 million in revenue to benefit the victims of the tsunami and earthquake that devastated Japan in March.

A press release indicates that the $5 million was given to The Japanese Red Cross Society.

The artists involved in the project, including Eminem, Cee-Lo, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Guetta, The Black Eyed Peas, Elton John and many more, waived their royalties and proceeds for the project.

Among the songs included on the project were “Love the Way You Lie” by Eminem and Rihanna, “It’s OK” by Cee-Lo, “Save Me” by Nicki Minaj, and “By Your Side” by Sade.

In related news, producer RJD2 gave back in his own way, holding a charity auction for Japan relief.

    1. YALL DUMB ASS AMERICANS DONT U REALIZE DAT JAPAN IS A ONE RICH ASS COUNTRY DAT CAN FIX THEIR OWN PROBLEM??? DO YALL THINK JAPS HELPED YALL WHEN KATRINA AND OTHA SHIT HAPPND>>???

      1. Giving vast amounts of money to undeserving/ungrateful/unnecessary countries is an American tradition.

      2. That comment showed your whole ignorance and limited mind. This is a planet, america isn’t the only country that needs help. You can include yourself into the list of ‘dumb americans’.

    2. @Theodore: Exactly. Japan, as a whole, donated 13$ million. This CD alone is 5$ million. It’s undoubtable that we donated much more than they did.

But, then again, their disaster was much bigger and the Japanese people deserve the money more than New Orleans.
