Snoop Dogg Is Mad 2Pac ‘Took His Shine,’ Says Outlawz Rapper Napoleon

Snoop Dogg has been carrying 2Pac‘s legacy quite well — but a member of the Outlawz has a different take on their legendary relationship.

Napoleon, who left the music industry after he converted to Islam in 2001, sat down with The Art of Dialogue and claimed that despite their close relationship, the Doggfather was actually quite jealous of Pac.

“Maybe some of the things he couldn’t tell Pac face-to-face, you know, he can do it in these interviews,” he said. “It’s sad. And one of the reasons why I always try to correct this is because him and Pac were friends. … I already know why he doin’ that, bro.

“Imagine if you’re the biggest star on Death Row, and Pac come and take all your shine, you understand?” he continued. “And 25 years later, Pac died, and every time you do an interview, that name is brought up. So maybe he’s just trying to take that shine from Pac. You know what I mean?”

Take a listen to the full interview below.

Napoleon also took the “Gin and Juice” rapper to task for slamming “Hit ‘Em Up” after Tupac had passed away, suggesting that the now-grandfather should remember his late friend in a positive way, “rather than focus on the negativity.”

On April 12, Snoop sat down with Big Boy for an Untold Stories interview, which is where he first told the story of his dislike for the infamous diss track against The Notorious B.I.G.

“Man, I’d say a week before he died, we was best of friends. Two days before he died, I don’t think he liked me,” he explained. “Because we was in New York and shit had happened. New York n-ggas had shot at me and did all kinds of shit to me, just the worst shit you could think of, and I forgave ’em.

“Then I went and did an interview and was asked how did I feel about Puffy and Biggie. I was like, ‘I like them n-ggas, I wanna do some music with ’em.’

“And that just rubbed cuz the wrong way, like, ‘N-gga, fuck them n-ggas, them n-ggas tried to kill me. N-ggas shot at you, and you talking about you wanna do a song with them n-ggas?’”

For that reason, Snoop Dogg wasn’t a fan of “Hit ‘Em Up,” 2Pac’s vicious 1996 diss track aimed at Biggie that heightened the East Coast–West Coast rivalry.

“Even when he played the video for me to ‘Hit ‘Em Up,’ even when he played ‘Hit ‘Em Up,’ the song, I didn’t like the song,” he said. “I didn’t like it. I didn’t like the shit. It wasn’t the shit to me. Like, you buying more problems, cuh. You buying problems. Gangstas is everywhere. They make ’em everywhere.”

    1. Can we discuss that wack unearthed Biggie diss Snoop made despite saying he never had a problem with Bad Boy? A part of me feels like Snoop was pressured to make it by Deathrow but it was so meh. It wasn’t west coast material in the sense of the stardom they had. I don’t know. I would love to hear Snoop address this leaked piece of wackness and why it was leaked. But also to be straight up and not try to be constantly loved. We all make mistakes. We’re human. That’s why I never believe 80% of what artists say or do in the name of trending. There are liaisons, people on payroll etc.

      1. Just do a quick search on youtube. Snoop Dogg Biggie diss. You’ll find it accidentally. I believe its untitled.

    2. Funny that he talks about shine because the only shine Napo ever had was the crumbs of Tupacs table. The outlawz never made one significant song without Tupac on it and without Tupac they wouldn’t have sold 500 records. Most overrated succesful rap group ever. He’s right about Snoop though, he’s been shilling lies, half truths and straight up BS about Tupac for 25 years. They wouldn’t have patched up. Tupac and Dre also wouldn’t have patched up. Biggie and Pac wouldn’t have patched up. Not after hit em up, not after all that went down. Gullible people live in this fantasy world that 2 of their greatest heroes would have made up eventually… BULSHIAT. Pac created this fake beef to become famous and happily threw Biggie under the bus for that and insulted the man for the worst things imaginable. You do not come back from that. And with good reason. Wanna hear some dry snitching? Just listen to tupac. They wouldn’t have reconciled in a million years.

    3. But Outlawz… Snoop is alive. He’s a multi platinum rapper worth over 100M. Pac is dead, Pac died with 200K to his name and left his mom, who is dead, his estate worth 40M. Who is shining exactly buddies? Please relax. You guys talked WAY too much shit like he did, only didn’t have the lyrics and swag to back it up. Now you all work at a Chili’s or some shit, and are mad Snoop keeps giving Pac props without paying you all $500 each to show up.

      1. Did you read or watch the video before going on that pointless rant? Not sure why you’re talking as if they’re gonna take the time to acknowledge you for what you said lol. You’re nobody like everyone else on here after all. Now we know…

    4. There was ALOT of tension between Snoop and Pac during Pac’s last days. They were recording Makaveli and Doggfather at the same time in the same studio (different rooms). It was so bad that Pac called Snoop’s room “The Wack Room.” That’s why no one made appearances on either album, except for Bad Azz (RIP) on Krazy.
