Slum Village Aims At Releasing Music In “Museum” Form

Slum Village is gearing up to release its forthcoming album, Yes, and recently stopped through HipHopDX’s headquarters to talk about it.

T3 says the group is more focused on how they’re going to release future work rather than getting it out to all fans digitally and quickly.

“Slum Village, we’re going back. Digital don’t hurt or help us. It’s cool to have it but we’re going back though. We’re making classic pieces now,” he said via a segment of today’s (June 9) DX Daily. “We’re doing box sets, we’re doing one-of-a-kind items so we see our music like museum pieces now. We don’t do it just to do it no more. You know what I’m saying? When we did the [J.] Dilla box set, that’s one of a kind. You’re never going to see this again. That’s the type of joints we going to do. It’s less about the music and more about the legacy of how we present the music. That’s what it’s going back to.”

T3 also expressed his excitement that vinyl is selling more rapidly as of late and says Slum Village’s next work will be catered more toward “collectors.”

“People buying vinyl again,” he said. “It’s hard getting vinyl. You have to wait, like 12 weeks. You used to be able to get vinyl in a month. That’s what we’re going to do, drop it on vinyl. People are buying vinyl again… It’s like, you’ve heard all the music that Slum can do. You already know that shit. It’s about the collectors now.” T3 ended by explaining that focusing on releasing music in a physical form makes it more timeless. Slum’s last release was Evolution in 2013.

    1. They need to consider reissuing their 3rd album, “Trinity”. 2 disc set including all the instrumentals.

    2. It’s crazy because the picture that is shown is not even slum anymore. RIP Bataan and Elzhi is solo, in which we need an album by him ASAP

      1. EXACTLY. Love Elzhi (in my top10 ever as his pen game, cadence, patterns, flow, etc are all A+), but he’s slacking on this album that was funded via kickstarter and supposed to come out APRIL 2014 AKA 14 months ago! He got 37k from FANS ($25 from me) and the updates from him and his supposed PR/Marketing team have been horrid. If something happened personally or whatever it is i get it but let your fans know!

Slum Village with no Elzhi is lyrically irrelevant. J-Dilla was great on the beats back in the day for sure

    3. R.I.P. Baatin. R.I.P. Dilla.

I don’t even know who Slum Village is anymore, but Elzhi hasn’t been Slum for years. I’m bitter that we’ve been waiting on his solo joint for so long though…

    4. Elzhi hasn’t been in Slum Village for almost over 4 years. But I’m looking forward to his upcoming solo album tho. I backed the project too and respect that he’s taking his time with it. Creativity is something shouldn’t be rushed. If it takes a year then so be it. The product will surely reflect the diligence.
