Sexyy Red Reacts To ‘SkeeYee’ Being Crowned Best Rap Song Of 2023

Sexyy Red has enjoyed a breakout year in 2023 and she’s collected another accolade thanks to “SkeeYee.”

On Wednesday (December 20), Rolling Stone revealed their picks for the best rap songs of the year and they gave the nod to Sexyy’s “SkeeYee” anthem in the top spot.

“Her conversational delivery and almost whiny trills make her exciting flow feel casual,” Rolling Stone wrote in praise of the single, “and Tay Keith’s production is nostalgic for the simpler times of T-Mobile Sidekicks and physical mixtapes with its sinister piano loop, spacious bass, and piercing high hats. ‘SkeeYee’ spread like a contagious laugh, so silly that it’s extraordinary.”

The St. Louis native reacted to the news with a simple stamp of approval: “Okayyyy!,” adding in a separate tweet, “I deserveeee. (Mama dee voice).”

“SkeeYee” beat out other tracks including Latto’s “Put It On Da Floor,” Ice Spice’s “Deli,” Veeze’s “Not A Drill” and J. Cole and Lil Yachty’s “The Secret Recipe,” which rounded out the top five.

The Tay Keith-produced “SkeeYee” landed on Sexyy’s Hood Hottest Princess mixtape in June, with the project standout slow-burning its way to chart success behind “Pound Town.”

“SkeeYee” invaded the Billboard Hot 100 in the second half of 2023 and peaked at No. 62 on the chart. The song is also in the running for Best Hip Hop Song in the 2023 HipHopDX Awards, while Sexyy Red herself is nominated for Rookie of the Year.

The fun track became a pop culture staple later in the year as moments like the New York Jets turning up to the catchy tune at practice in August went viral and gave the song even more shelf life.

While there were plenty of wins stacking up for Sexyy Red this year, there was some disappointment when her sex tape was leaked on social media.

“That was the wackest video, bruh,” she told The Breakfast Club last week. “I was tired, fat, pregnant — I didn’t even feel like doin’ shit on there, bruh.

“And then, that’s the one that fuckin’ get leaked. I was mad. It was in the moment, and then, I set the phone down. But I ain’t the one that did it.”

    1. Hip Hop is dead. Gangsta Rap, Crunk, Trap, Drill and Stripper Rap killed it. May all these Sambo/MAGA Minstrel Show mfs fail.

    2. The people who control Hip Hop/Rap branded it as “The Culture” because they want black Americans to be perceived as murderous, money hungry, sexual deviant animals; that’s black Americans culture. That’s why rappers who rap about sex, prostitution, murder, money, drug dealing are the representatives of Hip Hop. That’s why Sexy Red has the hottest song of 2023 because she’s doing a good job of branding black Americans as sex-crazed deviants

    3. Not Hip-Hop’s first diversity award, but certainty not their last either. Sexyy Red is the Kamala Harris of Hip-Hop.

    4. Lol best rap song of 2023? Absolutely not. Who chose this ghetto trash ass track as the best? Lol you rewarded for portraying gutter class music but when Lil Baby did I Can’t Breathe showing injustices black people face I didn’t see any awards go his way for that. Sad
