After being compared to his ex-band mate Rahzel, Scratch is out to prove to heads there is a difference between the two. Although Scratch is still a human beatboxing member of the group The Roots, he still feels like people don’t recognized him instead of Rahzel.
“It’s frustrating,” Scratch says. “You’re doing a show, you think you’re doing so good and then, out of nowhere, someone yells, ‘Rahzel!’” Scratch hopes to change people’s perception of his talent with his first solo album ‘The Embodiment of Instrumentation’ which landed in stores nationwide June 4th.
With plans to stick close to what he is known for, he doesn’t plan on changing to an entire rap style. “You know what I do. I’m going to do what I do best. It’s a God-given gift”. “It’s not something anyone can do easily and execute it to make it sound like the same texture and pitch as a record when it’s being scratched. When I hear that record, I can visualize the sound it”, Scratch said.
Jill Scott on “The Morning After,” Bilal on “Square One,” and Black Thought and Malik B. on “You Know the Rulez” will make guest appearances on the album.
