Saweetie may be rich and famous now, but her journey to stardom was anything but smooth and it still makes her emotional when she reminisces about it.
The Bay Area native hit up Power 106’s Brown Bag Mornings to promote her new single “NANi” on Friday (May 17), and got teary-eyed as she opened up about her humble beginnings.

“I remember I was too proud to tell my friends and my family that I had nowhere to stay and I was literally couch surfing,” she began as she blotted tears.
“But it was cool because people always wanted to be around, so I didn’t have to worry about having a place to stay, but my homegirls knew what was going on. But I never wanted to take up space in someone’s house, so I would just keep my closet in my car.”

She continued: “Girl, talk about having no confidence. I would even feel bad about partying. I know I just made that comment, but it’s just like— imagine not having the money, couch surfing, and then sometimes being in the club or being at parties. I would always just go home early because I felt like I didn’t deserve to be there.”
Eventually, though, her 2017 single “ICY GRL” became a hit and the rest was history. Watch her recount the whole story in the interview below:
In the recently-released video for “NANi,” Saweetie can be seen singing poolside, while showcasing neon bikinis and matching nails.
The “My Type” rapper also sports a beaded bathing suit and is joined by a number of friends, all of whom showcase their twerking skills.
Saweetie ushered in the new release with a video posted to X (formerly Twitter).
In the clip, she says: “Happy release day for ‘NANi.’ I just wanna give a special thank you to everybody who has been anticipating and supporting it. I hope you guys like the video.”
