RZA: You Can’t Take Caucasians & Latinos Out Of Hip Hop

In an interview with Pigeons and Planes, Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA and System of a Down’s Shavo Odadjian discuss their Hip Hop and Rock-infused project, Achozen LP. In the interview, RZA expresses why he feels like you can’t take Caucasians and Latinos out of Hip Hop.

The Wu-Tang member tells the story of when Shavo introduced him to Metal and Rock music. RZA says that after picking up a guitar from Shavo’s guitar collection, it helped change his perspective on how he embraces other musical genres.

“So I started listening to rock,” RZA says. “Look at a band like Queen: ‘Mama, I just killed a man…’ and you realize, ‘Okay, these dudes was getting busy, too.’

“People say Hip Hop is a Black man’s music, but Rick Rubin was there early,” the rapper-producer-director continues. “DJ Charlie Chase is Puerto Rican. You can’t take the elements of the Caucasian brother or the Latino brother out of Hip Hop.”

RZA and Shavo have been working on Achozen LP for the past nine years and on June 29 the duo released eight tracks exclusively on Boombotix. The songs feature George Clinton, GZA and John Frusciante.

      1. Whites have been in hip hop for awhile. Its ok… unless we’re better than some people then we’re guest. If not creating the music, we’re supporting the music. Its no secret that whites buy a majority of the records. We’re the reason your favorites became successful. We bought those records CHUMP. Even Brand Nubians and to quote them “punks jump up to get beat down” lol

      2. @ Imperial Lord Jamar …Look ma i’m trolling … I told you i would make something of my life i’m pretending to be black online it’s so cool and edgy … What A Fucking looser

      3. Blacks are guest in the U.S. Go back to Africa. Take whiny Akon back with you and drop him off in Liberia with no bubble protection.

    1. bong bong. rza makes the most sense ideology wise out of everybody from wu tang. too bad his new music is trash

    2. Much respect to the Wisdom of the Universe for the Teachers of Allah and the Nation of the Gods. Always have faith

    3. Boombotix? put that ish out on itunes for us who cant get the physical items man, Rza always said Wu-tang is worldwide so this just limits the fans who still care about the music he puts out, smh.

    4. didnt thnk i could like rza anymore. but now i do (rzas been in my top 5 producer list forever)

and yes for all you who are about to ask i am white

    5. RZA was good and creative 20 years ago, but today his music and movies are just crap…if you have been there 20 years ago you know it’s the truth.

    6. Smh at some of the comments and sites that keep asking rappers these racial questions. these are businessmen. Saying anything else but the diplomatic answer would be career suicide or at least diminishing the potential growth of your audience. Rap is corporate now. These aren’t the days when rappers were allowed to speak their minds. We live in the era of public shaming, losing sponsorships, tmz blowing shit out of proportions. Looking back to when rap was “free speech”, rappers were saying literally anything on the mic with zero repercussions. Lol at these white fanboys happy their favorite black rapper is showing them acceptance. Its a business maaaannn

      1. exactly, lol, rza ain’t talking about you clowns so don’t think you just got a pass because rza knows about fork tongued devils

      2. Blacks are going nowhere in this country. Your problems are not wanted by the rest of the population. Arrogant and broke as fuck rappers are DESPERATE for attention. But no one is caring much because you act like idiotic neanderthals with no common sense. It may be a “business”, but your supposedly hottest rapper is a big homo with a fraud wife and science project babies. WHITE PEOPLE are your patrons. Everyone is not even on your same page. Keep fooling yourselves. You are a hated group because you do hated things to others and now no one is willing to give a fuck about you or what you are even about. Go stick your face in Bruce Jenner’s crusty dick tucked ass, loser.

    7. If you take out all the latinos that helped lay the foundation along with their black brothers there wouldn’t be know hip hop remember there were others before kool Herc and Bambaata that threw block parties to breakdown racial barriers and the name of those guys were the GHETTO BROTHERS Puerto Ricans from the s.bronx kid!! GRAFFITI was before the rhyme before cats were sending the message threw music they were SPRAYING it on trains JULIO 204 is credited as the first Graff writer in new york and he was a Puerto Rican from the savage skull gang so get your mind right 95% of y’all don’t know where this shit comes from hip hop isn’t a black thing hip hop is a universal thing so get your facts right..
