Run-DMC were almost in the same car as 2Pac the night he was fatally shot in Las Vegas.
âPac was struck by four bullets in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996 following the Bruce Seldon vs. Mike Tyson fight, dying from his wounds six days later.

During an appearance on Drink Champs, Darryl âDMCâ McDaniels revealed his legendary group were supposed to ride with 2Pac to the fight at the MGM Grand.
âI remember the night âPac died,â he began. âWe was hired by [662] to perform at the afterparty for the Tyson fight. This was when the Luxor was new. It was fly shit. So Iâll never forget, Suge [Knight] brought us there, paid for everything. We was hired for entertainment.

âSo, we get a call, itâs Suge. This a funny [Jam Master] Jay story. âYo, me and âPac coming to get yâall. Youâre gonna ride to the fight with us.â âCause remember, who was in the [BMW 750iL] with them? Nobody was in the backseat.
âMe, Run and Jay was supposed to be in that backseat. He calls him up and says, âYo, Iâm coming to get yâall. We want yâall to ride to the fight with us.'â
DMC went on to reveal that Jam Master Jay taking so long to get ready was the reason why they didnât end up hitching a ride with 2Pac.
âEric, my manager [says], âYâall go ahead without us,'â he said. ââWhy, whatâs the problem?â âJayâs getting dressed.â âHuh, what you talking about?â When Jay would get dressed, Jay would have all his clothes out there. Itâs worse than your wife or girl getting [dressed].

âThe reason why we ainât ride to the fight with âPac is âcause Jay was getting dressed. Jay would spend hours. It would be a fashion show. Jayâs getting dressed. We say, âWeâll meet yâall at the afterparty.â We get to the afterparty, Hammerâs there, the whole crew, everybodyâs there, Mel Man, everybodyâs there.â
He continued: âSo we in the club waiting for the fight to end, all of a sudden one dude comes in. Itâs about 100 people in there â they all leave. Empty cup, music off. A guy comes in with a briefcase.

âSo next morning, I had an afternoon flight. Iâm in the gym on the treadmill and then CNN â âLast night in Vegas, 2Pac got shot.â Like, âOh shit, thatâs why that happened.'â
After 27 years without making a single arrest, Las Vegas police charged Duane âKeefe Dâ Davis in September with the murder of 2Pac.
The former South Side Compton Crip is accused of orchestrating the deadly drive-by shooting as payback against 2Pac and Suge Knight, who along with their entourage attacked Davisâ nephew and fellow gang member Orlando Anderson earlier that night.
