Rihanna has been cast in a brand new film role — and this time, she’ll be going blue as she takes on the role of Smurfette in Paramount’s The Smurfs Movie.
The announcement was made on Thursday (April 27), when the “Pon De Replay” singer made a surprise in-person appearance at CinemaCon at the Caesar’s Palace Hotel in Las Vegas, NV.

“I tried to get the Papa Smurf role but it didn’t work out,” Rihanna joked about the part (via Variety).
In addition to voicing the lone female Smurf in the village, RiRi will be recording new songs for the soundtrack and producing the reboot of the franchise. The Smurfs Movie is set to hit theaters in 2025.

The franchise, which enjoyed a spate of success with hybrid live-action and animated films that first kicked off a decade ago, previously featured Katy Perry in the Smurfette role for the 2011 film The Smurfs, and Demi Lovato in the role for the 2017 film The Smurfs: The Lost Village.
While the Rihanna Navy is still anxiously awaiting the release of some new music, she’s enjoying being a mother to her sweet baby boy with rapper A$AP Rocky.

Earlier this month, the soon-to-be mother-of-two took to social media to show off their almost one-year-old baby boy, decked out in bunny ears and clearly having a ball with his Easter treats – which included real bunnies.
While posing with a book titled How To Catch the Easter Bunny, at least five real bunnies sat nearby. Looks like the book was a success.
Rihanna and Rocky’s family will soon grow to welcome one more. While a due date hasn’t been revealed, the Bajan superstar was sporting a substantial bump when she performed at the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show in February – which would mean she was already a few months along. She confirmed she was in her third trimester of pregnancy at CinemaCon, as well.
In a recent interview with British Vogue for her cover story, Rihanna opened up about her experiences with early motherhood.

“Oh my God, it’s legendary,” she said of her first nine months as a mother. “It’s everything. You really don’t remember life before, that’s the craziest thing ever.”
She continued: “You literally try to remember it – and there are photos of my life before – but the feeling, the desires, the things that you enjoy, everything, you just don’t identify with it because you don’t even allow yourself mentally to get that far because…because it doesn’t matter.”
