Reuben Vincent, who came up under the tutelage of 9th Wonder and Young Guru, was recently named one of HipHopDX’s Rising Stars of 2023.

“With early instrumentation similar to Tobe Nwigwe in an ode to his Liberian roots, Vincent raps over vocal chops and jazz riffs to tell a story of his journey towards self-love,” DX said of the young lyricist. “With his most recent release, Love Is War, Reuben morphs boom-bap stylings in a direction that’s more orchestral, inspired by his own affinity for The Love Below by Andre 3000.

The rapper and producer signed to JAY-Z’s Roc Nation in December 2021. The label confirmed the signing via an announcement video on Instagram, in which Vincent talked about his dream of signing to Jigga from a young age.

“Man, it’s so crazy like, I remember being a kid like five or 10 years old watching Fade to Black on TV, seeing Hov sell out Madison Square Garden,” Vincent says in the clip. “And then man, I remember getting on the bus and my friends asked me, ‘If you could ever sign a deal somebody, who would it be?’ And my first answer was Roc Nation.”

He added: “To me, that was just a dream. But one thing I didn’t know back then, was that some dreams stay dreams and some dreams come true. Welcome to JamRoc.”

Vincent dropped his Jamla/Roc Nation debut album Love Is War on January 27, and it features the singles “Butterfly Doors,”“Geechie Suede,” and “Trickin” featuring Domani.
