Record Label Politics

As the year end awards are being handed out all over the Internet, there is one category that should not have any disputes (although I know it will). That category is verse of the year, and the best verse of the year was undoubtedly Eminem’s first verse on “Renegades.” While his second verse was nearly as good, it was his first that put every one of his critics in their place. The funny thing is, that verse was never intended for that song.

Rumor has it that Slim wrote those verses for a callabo with fellow Detroit emcee Royce Da 5’9. The song was to appear on Royce’s upcoming debut album on Columbia Records. But for reasons unknown, Interscope kept that from happening for apparent legal reasons and Eminem instead used the lyrics for “Renegades.”
