Reason has confessed that he publicly praised Drake during his feud with Kendrick Lamar in an effort to get out of a deal with Top Dawg Entertainment.

Last April, as the feud between the two rap titans began to ignite, Reason praised Drizzy’s diss song “Push Ups” while also appearing to take digs at his label.

In a new interview with Bootleg Kev, the Carson, California rapper revealed his surprise support of the 6 God was a ploy to leave TDE.

“The only fans I really lost were fans that I shot myself in the foot in, but I had to do that to get out of the label deal,” he said. “When the Dot and Drake beef started, I felt like Top [Dawg] and them were kinda, like, dragging their feet a little bit. I don’t think purposely, I just think they had a lot of shit going on.

“And I knew that if I kinda sparked a fire a little bit that they would be like, ‘We gotta separate from this.’ So I started tweeting shit on the side of Drake purposely. There are fans that hate me for that.”

Reason added that after he praised “Push Ups,” he secured his release from TDE within a month, avoiding a drawn-out departure that could’ve otherwise lasted years.

The rapper later elaborated on his comments on social media, writing: “I get it. This beef to y’all is everything so I completely get why some fans feel a way.

“But for me as an artist and human (I say that because in this we forget people are actually human lol), me not dropping music means I can’t put food on the table and feed me and my family. I can’t pay bills, I can’t eat.

“If it ever comes down to being able to do that, or choosing a side in a beef, ima choose my survival. If you can’t understand that then that’s fine. Love to those that do.”

Before supporting Drake in his beef with Kendrick, Reason had made it publicly known that he had issues with the powerhouse West Coast label.

In 2023, the New Beginnings MC got into a heated argument with TDE co-president Moosa on the BACKONFIGG podcast over his frustrations with the company.

“We had certain features lined up that could’ve gone through. We had the budget, we had the feature lined up, takes too long to get pushed through, the feature price ended up going up or something goes away. Content ideas lined up, not executed. Rollout ideas lined up, not executed,” he vented.

Reason added: “It was a few different things. I had Latto lined up for something, not executed. I had EST Gee lined up, not executed. Like, us not pushing through. Features lined up, we got a price set, video, and verse for the love, takes too long.”

Moosa hit back by saying: “Aye, Dave [Free], Dot, I love them n-ggas. Dave never wanted us to sign Reason. He called him a substitute teacher. Dot only said Reason had talent, but it’s gon’ take more than just talent in this game right now and everybody know that.”
